I will post a video(or 2) each day of something I really like and ILXors can tell me what they think of it. Hopefully I can introduce some people to music they didn't know. I'm shit at describing things as you all know so that would only spoil the thread, so your comments will decide if this thread is pointless or not.
I wont be sticking to one genre, I shall post whatever I'm in the mood for! So anything may be posted. But today I am in the mood for classic FUNK.
And the 2 videos to start with:
Kool & The Gang - Jungle BoogieBack when they were an awesome funk outfit before disco came along
Ohio Players - Love RollercoasterSince so many only know the RHCP cover here is the real deal
Any thoughts ILM?

saw both of these first clips years ago (in the days before youtube) as part of some Rare Funk clips collection that played at a local second-run movie house. Both great obviously. OP's guitarist cracks me up.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 11 December 2008 16:43 (sixteen years ago)
Never watch it so I was unaware they were using it. Glad to know there's something good about the show!

Kool & the Gang was A++++. Not seen that before, always just took them for granted, but it was great to see them pushing the music along there, especially the drummer. First Ohio Players video I wasn't so keen on, but the dancers ruled! Thanks dood.
― NickB, Thursday, 11 December 2008 18:18 (sixteen years ago)
Glad you liked it. Ohio Players are fantastic and I need to track down some Junie era stuff on there.

Shakey, some of the strongest Ohio Players stuff came after Junie joined parliament/funkadelic. They were one hell of a band in the 70s.
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 11 December 2008 18:39 (sixteen years ago)
And yes, that really is a violin solo in the 17 min clip of maggot brain

i didn't mean to discourage, this thread has just encouraged me to pick up a copy of honey by the ohio players for £3 i saw in the charity shop on my way home. and i loves it.

Great album! Shakey will be along at some point to tell you the Westbound albums are better.
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 December 2008 18:21 (sixteen years ago)
excuse my naivety but what/whos the Westbounds?
― a hoy hoy, Friday, 12 December 2008 18:37 (sixteen years ago)
Westbound was OP's original record label.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 12 December 2008 18:41 (sixteen years ago)
aha. i will check it out, cheers. half the links are down already btw. So i am trying to make my way through the funk before it all dies.
― a hoy hoy, Friday, 12 December 2008 18:43 (sixteen years ago)
damn i didn't notice some had been taken down.
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 December 2008 19:50 (sixteen years ago)
Oh man, yeah, just too much to watch! Best Afghan Whigs performance I've seen on YouTube is 'Faded' at the Rockpalast Festival in Germany somewhere, Dulli doing his heroic swaggering douchebag thing to the max, really worth watching for the, um, crowd interaction. Makes me wish I'd seen them more live. Only ever caught them once, just after 'Sister Brother' came out, but they were pretty great then.
― NickB, Friday, 12 December 2008 19:57 (sixteen years ago)
I saw them live in 1996. Fantastic stuff.
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 12 December 2008 20:43 (sixteen years ago)

― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 13 December 2008 00:10 (sixteen years ago)
Second day not as great, but only because I don't really care for grunge. Always wondered what Afghan Whhigs sounded like though. And its impossible not to love Pavement, so cheers.

There is a guy at my work who has an Om hoodie. No lie. It's really beautiful. Some kind of colorful design on grey, something like that. I dunno, he works on another floor from me, I don't see him much. He's got a good knowledge of music, though.
I pulled out my Om CD but I can't find it now. Sigh. Nope. I found it. I'll pop it into the computer in a bit.
― Cheap Uptown Dirt (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Sunday, 14 December 2008 08:42 (sixteen years ago)
Wow, Bimble has an Om cd.
― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 December 2008 14:05 (sixteen years ago)
I saw Om a few weeks ago, they were really good. Earth are good from what I've heard- is their latest record worth picking up?
― Neil S, Sunday, 14 December 2008 14:23 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, but maybe start with the one before it. Neither are drone metal though. If you want that stuff then start with Earth 2.

― Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 14 December 2008 18:54 (sixteen years ago)
That was the first time I'd heard Earth or Om. Boooo-ring! Thought these guys were metal; I kept waiting for a payoff.
― Whitey on the Moon, Sunday, 14 December 2008 22:59 (sixteen years ago)
As I said earlier if you want metal earth try earlier stuff
