It's okay...coz I saw SK once and they play the same song over and over. They were supporting Marine Research...oh my indie days! ha!

great guitar playing, great stage presence, foxy ladies.

Rarrrrr.

DV, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Forget Lee Tigre, pay attention to their support act, Slumber Party. (and maybe their erstwhile roadie...)

speak of the devil, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark, what's yr take on Cassavetes? Genius, misogynist?

That's key.

Momus, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

destroy: old-ilm.

jess, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mark, you will probably enjoy it. lookout for those male-bashing gangs however. dangerous stuff, that.

jess, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My answer was sensible, mark. That's what happened when me and Nath saw them! (also: grebt dance routines)

Jeff W, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

momus i liked gloria when i saw it

mark s, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

JC said that 'Gloria' was his 'Hollywood film' (apart from the films he actually made in Hollywood, obv.)

Angel Corpus Christi also has a song abt JC.

Andrew L, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

speedy surcease

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

le tigre are nothing like sleater-kinney or heavens to betsy. do not fret. it will be electroclash but with shoutier vocals.

Sterling Clover, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

watch kathleen as much as possible. if you don't already, be prepared to finally understand why JD is a grate addition to the band. keep an ear peeled for witticisms from johanna. enjoy the videos that they have made, as they are grate. especially watch for a nice video by elizabeth subrin. it has the girls in an office scenario with phones and stuff and spinning around in circles. watch for when ally sheedy starts spinning around in her spazzy dance from the breakfast club... oh yeah and watch kathleen as much as possible

Ron, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

shouty is very nearly my favourite word

i am actually really looking forward to it

mark s, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hecklers singing on stage!
hahaha Personally it was the HIGH light of the entire evening. Well, no, maybe not.
I prefered Peaches actually. ROWR

cuba libre (nathalie), Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

polo shirts.

Sean, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh i came over all hmm when i reread that

mark s, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

damn, I wish I were you. I saw Le Tigre back in February, and they were brilliant. as for this 'ugly lesbian' business, just ignore anyone who thinks Kathleen isn't incredibly hot in her 'feminist cheerleader' outfit and wacko hairdo. when I saw them it was all I could do to stop staring at her and concentrate on the songs (which are great).

I saw the White Stripes last night, and they weren't as good.

Justyn Dillingham, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(yeah i did ignore that justyn)

mark s, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(I didn't mean that ugly lesbians thing (should gave put quote or allegedly or apparently), I was trying to mock whoever said it on the other thread)

Graham, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Watch out for maybe an avant-garde feminist performance artist as an opener who'll bore you to tears. If you're lucky though, you might get that crazy-ass dance troupe.

Also, don't fall in love with anyone at first sight there and proceed to construct daydreams and scenarios in your head and how you finally found your soulmate, only to have her make out with her girlfriend moments later and thus crushing that seldom-used organ you call your heart in only matters of seconds. 'Cause that would suck.

alex in montreal, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm very jealous mark. please tell us all about it. they aren't like sleater-kinney, but i think you should listen to them as well. ugly lesbians? theres no such thing!

di, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

cowpunks!

Well, maybe there'll be a few bolo ties, I don't know.

Arthur, Thursday, 30 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can we talk about Slumber Party some more? I think they are FABULOUS. We need more all-girl pop w/ lots of reverb

electric sound of jim, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Saw Le Tigre's Leeds gig last night. Everything Ron said, plus added skipping rope action.

chris j, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i will tell all! (well, some!!) it's tonight and i'm v.excited

mark s, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Enjoy, mark. And leave off, Justyn, she's mine!

Jeff W, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am ALL for talking about Slumber Party. Hooray for Slumber Party. Sleeper hit of the last year. (And I mean sleeper as in something that took a while to grow on you, rather than that awful indie band.)

So yes, WATCH OUT FOR SLUMBER PARTY!!! And even more special, watch out for their AMPS!!! Heh heh. I'm not on Kill Rock Stars, but my amps are. OK, I'm worried about the reverb situation, and I hope they brought their own reverb units, because Sarah Utter blew the Marshall and the reverb channel has never quite recovered.

They're doing an XFM session this afternoon as well. What kind of mischeif do you think I can get up to hanging around XFM for an afternoon.

speak of the devil, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Lucky Mark! It shd be fun - I wanted to go but never got my arse into gear wrt tickets and the like. And I haf cramps anyway grrr they are not nice. Where are they playing again?

Sarah, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

haha dunno, i am meeting my riot grrl pal who got me tkts outside the dominion so poss inside the dominion

mark s, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark: Make sure you keep an eye out for le lino and le bera (oh my).

Dan Perry, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh what a world

mark s, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't 'We Will Rock You' currently on at the Dominion?

Andrew L, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

same diff

mark s, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, don't fall in love with anyone at first sight there and proceed to construct daydreams and scenarios in your head and how you finally found your soulmate, only to have her make out with her girlfriend moments later and thus crushing that seldom-used organ you call your heart in only matters of seconds. 'Cause that would suck.

I don't know. Works for me. (And Mark, at the gig you should call out for the song where they mention my ex-wife's ex-girlfriend.)

Frank Kogan, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you should look out for me! i have just painted my nails in the back of the office, special like.

kathleen hannah is my heroine. i thought i knew everything about her but did not know about THIS: http://www.ink19.com/issues_F/00_04/wet_ink/screen/tommy_lee_and.sht ml

Kathleen Hannah and Tommy Lee in naughty video sensation!!! (for me, maybe i'm the last to know). 'Doesn't disappoint with her clothes off'. Erm, go sister!

nickie, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Waagh, Frank! Who's that?

It's not 'Vaginal Cream' Davis is it?

nickie, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Punching in Nickie's link for your convenience.

Waaagh, Frank! Who's that?"

It's none of your business. (I'm such a tease, aren't I? And a hypocrite. But seriously, I'd be invading her privacy if I named her. She's one of the art bitches that Le Tigre names on that song where they name and pay tribute to about 400 art bitches. I don't remember the title; I heard the song on Christgau's show on Voice radio last year.)

Frank Kogan, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That would be either "Hot Topic" or "Whats Yr Take on Cassavettes" (sic). I'm kinda hoping it's the latter. (1 art bitch mentioned 400 times = 400 art bitches, yes?)

Daver, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kogan was married to either Carol Rama, Eleanor Antin, Yoko Ono, Carolee Schneeman, Gretchen Phillips, Cibo Matto, Leslie Feinberg, Faith Ringgold, Mr. Lady, Laura Cottingham, Mab Segrest, The Butchies, Tammy Rae Carland, Sleater-Kinney, Vivienne Dick, Lorraine O'Grady, Gayatri Spivak, Angela Davis, Laurie Weeks, Dorothy Allison, Gertrude Stein, Marlon Riggs, Billie Jean King, Ut, DJ Cuttin Candy, David Wojnarowicz, Melissa York, Nina Simone, Ann Peebles, Tammy Hart, The Slits, Hanin Elias, Hazel Dickens, Cathy Sissler, Shirley Muldowney, Urvashi Vaid, Valie Export, Cathy Opie, James Baldwin, Diane Dimassa, Aretha Franklin, Joan Jett, Mia X, Krystal Wakem, Kara Walker, Justin Bond, Bridget Irish, Juliana Lueking, Cecilia Dougherty, Ariel Skrag, The Need, Vaginal Creme Davis, Alice Gerard, Billy Tipton, Julie Doucet, Yayoi Kusama, or Eileen Myles.

nabisco%%, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

None of the above. You didn't read my post carefully. Wait, I meant to write all of the above. I get around.

Frank Kogan, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bah, sorry, okay, ex-wife's ex-girlfriend. That would explain the "invading her privacy" part, which baffled me.

nabisco%%, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that video can't be for real. I doubt Tommy Lee even knows who "Kathleen Hannah" (sic) is. it's an odd sort of joke, though - you'd think they'd add some pictures if they actually expected to fool anyone.

Justyn Dillingham, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

haha they mention her in the same song they mention UT!! hahahaha i wuv le tigre: i shall write 200 words on why at the weekend instead of waving a flag at the queen hurrah

mark s, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, Mark, you might love "What's Your Take On Cassavetes?" since it's "The Dangling Conversation" done as gleeful farce (as if "Is the theater really dead?" were a lunatically delightful question, far more worth addressing that than, say, the "real" communication that should have occurred in its absence).

Frank Kogan, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Le Tigre would suck even without the ugly lesbians.

adam, Friday, 31 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ut!! I take it all back...

(I was playing a Melt Banana track the other day and my flatmate thought it was Ut...)

Andrew L, Saturday, 1 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hold your tongue, adam, le tigre were great last night. support were a bit lacklustre but the sound was quite bad so maybe they were in a strop.

but le tigre! gurl anthems to shout to! matching outfits! first time i've pogoed in years! stage invasion! it was a wonder! johanna is my favourite now! yeah!

i do not believe that ink19 story. she wouldn't... would she?

nickie, Saturday, 1 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

real communication at a le tigre show at the astoria, given its legendary fuck-awful sound = entirely non-verbal, even tho all threee of em use their mouths a lot

mark s, Saturday, 1 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ugly lesbian friends.

yeah fuck lezzos, bitches who won't suck my dick should be BANNED.

di, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Surprise of the night number one was Kathleen Hanna = Really Extremely Nice after all. She popped backstage to wish us all luck, and even offered to share their food.

It's too bad I still find her "Feminist Cheerleader" antics onstage extremely irritating. There is one song that I liked, but I can't remember what it's called. It was during the encore. Why were they dressed like the Powerpuff Girls' aunts? I didn't understand that. I liked the films, though.

Surprise of the night number two = Joe Foster turning out to be Exceptionally Top Bloke. I take back about half the nasty things I've ever said about Creation/Poptones (except for the other half of the nasty things, which he totally confirmed.)

speak of the devil, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

k.hanna = little my!!

i looked out for you m.boom but i was mostly up in the Very Extremely Old Person's Sector wiv my friends. I got interviewed on video!: "Why are you here, very extremely old person?"

mark s, Monday, 3 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

except for the other half of the nasty things, which he totally confirmed

I now count the seconds for the inevitable follow-up from A Certain Someone.
