if he's back to rapping like he did on the first two albums, and it's gonna have funky dre beats instead of stiff and martial Marshall beats, fuck yeah I'll anticipate this.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Saturday, 13 December 2008 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i got no problem with that

what is my attitude (gbx), Saturday, 13 December 2008 19:32 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, and if the next Rolling Stones album sounded like the missing link between Sticky Fingers and Exile I'd anticipate that too, but it's not gonna fuckin' happen.

The strawman from the hilarious 'ilx' race threads (some dude), Saturday, 13 December 2008 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

Well it is gonna have Dre beats. And dude may have gotten a little less WHOOPSIMEANGIRLGIRLGIRLGIRLIKEEDIKEEDIJOKEIJOKEHAWHAWHAWHAWTOUCHMYBODYSINGFORTHEMOMENTTHEMOVEMENT now that he's been home chillin with his daughter and quietly collecting checks for a few years

Whiney G. Weingarten, Saturday, 13 December 2008 20:05 (sixteen years ago)

hey guyz if youre still fiendin to fuck with a shit-talking punchline cracker from the midwest but dont wanna suffer thru another wack CD of off-key hooks, poopy farty pee-pee rhymes, and, rakim-allah forbid, "like toy soldiers", i recommend staying the h-e-double-hockeysticks away from new em records and just becoming a copywrite stan

this is a 4 1/2 mic classic mixtape

i dunno, there's a difference between a "d'oh we were gonna wait 2 more weeks to drop this single but since it's out there..." leak, and a "this song is unfinished and features a scratch vocal by a different artist, noone was meant to hear this" leak.

and Interscope can't possibly control every track that gets leaked by their artists.

BIG BROOS aka the steenspringer (some dude), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 18:52 (sixteen years ago)

thats not the infamous copy beatdown pic thats him fighting ikon the mic king, the more infamous pic is copy vs camu

check 4 copy's lolarious vid he made after the beatdown ("doggy bit me!!")

morbza the greek (and what), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 18:55 (sixteen years ago)

But the 45 degree tilt toward earth is what made the 1st pic famous.

President Keyes, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

i dunno, im thinking that since the kanye single got leaked so early and got people excited partly cos it was so rough and demo sounding, this might be the new trend - leaking tracks that are still really scrappy. everyone liked hearing the biggie demos of lil kim tracks - this is just getting in there early.

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 19:28 (sixteen years ago)

(not that this is a particularly good song either way - i doubt even dre rhyming where eminems left his guide tracks can make it much better)

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 19:29 (sixteen years ago)

that's a totally different situation, though. Kanye posted "Love Lockdown" to his blog, not calling it a 'demo' or anything, and after everyone said the vocals sucked compared to the live performance he caved and re-recorded it. even if artists want to post works in progress, they're probably going to be very touchy about how and when that stuff gets out to the public.

BIG BROOS aka the steenspringer (some dude), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 19:33 (sixteen years ago)

re: "Number One": He needs a kids choir to sing the chorus, or some Little Rascals kids.

though i'd love to be optimistic i think whatever it was that made eminem awesome is long, long gone : (

hungry. sense of humor. not producing. agreed it's disappeared like axel r. by now.

New single?

http://nahright.com/news/2008/12/31/eminem-crack-a-bottle-number-one/

The Dre production is great and Em sounds more focused than usual (no weird accents!).

makeitpop, Wednesday, 31 December 2008 22:37 (sixteen years ago)

chorus was already getting old by the 3rd time it happened. like the production a lot but em's rapping is kinda meh, esp when compared to his best stuff. not feeling any fire or anything really...just mehhhh

Re: Mixtape

Mine was the first non-sarcastic post on the thread! I want a mixtape!

Mordy, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

Is "Crack a Bottle" seriously being discussed as a first single? Really? (in Seth & Amy voice) Like, for real? Because it's not that special. It's like something to tack on to a deluxe, six-months later edition of Relapse, right? The beat's the best thing about it - the featured performers are all kinda sleepwalking through it. It's like that "Swagger Like Us" track from the T.I. album, only not quite as good, and that track wasn't awesomesauce to begin with.

Beatrix Kiddo, Thursday, 8 January 2009 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

jokes on you for caring about a new em joint in 09 homie

and what, Thursday, 8 January 2009 16:06 (sixteen years ago)

Mordy, Thursday, 8 January 2009 16:07 (sixteen years ago)

well, that goes without saying, doesn't it?

Beatrix Kiddo, Thursday, 8 January 2009 16:07 (sixteen years ago)

A lot of big projects like this have one or two big trumpeted leak songs that get called the "first single" until an actual proper first single comes out...sometimes because the first leak flops, sometimes it's just planned as a b-side/'street single' all along. I think they just rushed out "Crack A Bottle" because that demo w/ scratch vocals leaked but they're not gonna shoot a video or anything.

i mean we can debate the wit/detail behind his psychopathy then and now or whatever, but that sonic detail alone is enough to make this album worth avoiding.

hahaha

Beatrix Kiddo, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 20:44 (sixteen years ago)

For the record I haven't heard the new one yet, just surprised at some of the comments that hinted at 1999 Em sucking.

homage is parody gone sour (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 20:51 (sixteen years ago)

I remember actually being excited for the increasing musicality of Em's voice circa "Without Me" but it never really evolved past that sing-song holler and when the beats got more turgid oy

da croupier, Tuesday, 19 May 2009 20:52 (sixteen years ago)

also, is it me or is dr. dre pretty much a shitty producer in 2009?

^^^

autobahn mi (The Reverend), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

both dre and em need to hang it up. this shit is taking shittines to the next level. well done.

"If any rapper ever had the cultural currency to not try for the pop radio single and still sell it'd be him, but he just never bothers."

werd, i was just thinking this. i mean, has nobody told him that NO ONE (prince, the beatles, ll cool j, anyone) keeps selling singles to teenagers forever? i mean at some point you gotta grow up with your fans if you want to still have anyone want to see your shows when your 40. it's weird, cause going by his lyrics/skill you gotta assume the guys got some smarts. does he really think this sort of crap is really gonna sell?

"It honestly makes me curious if Interscope won't greenlight his album until he has a song like this"

this would make a lot of sense.

messiahwannabe, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 09:59 (sixteen years ago)

I just realized I never heard The Eminem Show or Encore in their entirety. Might bother with the former today, for the "which is worse, poo or shit" debate. Definitely don't here a moment on Relapse as grating as the "AND NOW I'M THE TERMINATOR" thing on "Ass Like That," so I'll buy this is better thant Encore.

da croupier, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 11:48 (sixteen years ago)

If Em had half a brain he'd forget albums and put out movie soundtrack download-only EPs like Col. Tom Parker would have him doing

MT: One of the things that was interesting in your autobiography is when you're discussing the topic of guns and you wrote: "guns are bad." I'm wondering if you're happy to see hip hop and rap in general kind of moving away from the "gangsta" element.

EMINEM: Um, well, do you think it is moving away from that? I guess, in a sense, it does kinda feel like that, doesn't it?

MT: Yeah. And I think you're partially responsible for that because you brought a more humanistic sense to the form.

MT: That's the key. That's great. The new "We Made You" video is one of the most hilarious fucking things I've seen in a long time. The song itself is great — but the video made me laugh. It's almost like you're bringing about a rebirth of the music video. But I think there's deeper stuff there. You tell me if I'm reading too much into it — but in the past, Eminem, especially the Slim Shady character, was always painted as this villain in pop culture. And yet in this video, you're mocking all these current iconic "heroes" in modern culture. But it's like these lame idiots are the heroes and icons of today. And it's like, "Well, who are the real villains here?" Or am I reading too much into it?

I've always wanted people to be able to look back at each video and go, "Oh, remember what was going on at that moment!" You know what I mean? "Oh, that's when Jessica Simpson got fat." "Oh, OK!" And even if she gets thin again, that's fine. But for that moment in time, she was fat.

MT: Well, again, maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it seems like you are addressing that in the new video when you're lampooning modern pop and rock culture. You know? As far as I'm concerned, even at your most Slim Shady worst, you were never as creepy as, say, Bret Michaels!

EMINEM: [laughs hard] That's funny, man!

MT: Thanks.

da croupier, Thursday, 21 May 2009 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

i thought y'all would enjoy that

Beatrix Kiddo, Thursday, 21 May 2009 20:34 (sixteen years ago)

EMINEM: What I did was I bought a whole bunch of CDs, right? I bought like everything that was new. Everything that had just come out. And then I never got a chance to listen to it! So I've been taking like an album every day, a new CD with me every day. And then I put it in the car so I can listen to it on my ride to and from the studio. And I'm totally trying to play catch-up that way.

So it's really funny that you bring that up because all those CDs ... well, most of them have literally been sitting inside my CD drawers unopened since then. And I'm just now taking like one out a day and trying to play catch-up.

Beatrix Kiddo, Thursday, 21 May 2009 20:36 (sixteen years ago)

MT: It seems also in the book that we saw a more grown-up or adult element to Eminem. Controversy is still obviously going to hound you because that's just the nature of the beast. The O'Reilly thing proves that. But I'm wondering if Eminem, the father and the humanist, has finally caught up with Eminem the artist?

EMINEM: I don't know about that. You might wanna listen to the record first!

MT: OK . Well, you know, there are so many parts of the book that are just genuinely touching. They reveal you have a genuinely good heart — like when you and Proof helped that little girl who was stranded in the airport. Stuff like that. I guess what I'm wondering is if there's a change in image. I just read yesterday that you are going to be in a new movie this summer, and you can't say anything about it, but that it's a Disney movie. So, I thought, well, "That has got to be Eminem the dad coming into focus there."

EMINEM: No, it's not a Disney movie!

MT: OK. Well, then let's forget that.

EMINEM: I was just being sarcastic. Yeah, I'm alongside Hanna Montana in my new short film!
