very difficult. are any of these not good? it's too bad there was never a dedicated disco consultant release.

tricky, Saturday, 13 December 2008 23:47 (sixteen years ago)

i'm not that into errorsmith, myself

moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 13 December 2008 23:48 (sixteen years ago)

soundhack - epic laser-tooled house trax
soundstream - laid-back outer space precision-mistake house cut-ups
errorsmith - brain melting ultra-glitch cut-ups
smith'n'hack - add soundhack to soundstream and stir for 10 minutes
mmm - laser-tooled electro-techno cut-ups
mmm/soundhack - bouillabaisse

errorsmith - patience testing ultra-glitch cut-ups

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

touché! i saw them play live and it was anything but patience testing (mutek 04). it's kind of like techno turned inside out.

tricky, Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:14 (sixteen years ago)

what is the EP with the goggles on the cover? i have to dig around and find it. i think it's errorsmith

tricky, Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:15 (sixteen years ago)

errorsmith #2

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:15 (sixteen years ago)

one time i tried to put the old network comp "bio rhythm - dance music with bleeps" on the disc changer but i hit the wrong button and ended up playing smith'n'hack's "tribute" instead, without realizing what i had done. totally fucked me up, i was like, "oh my god this is the best bleep'n'bass comp ever!" does that mean anything?

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:17 (sixteen years ago)

personally i'm partial to sound stream and smith'n'hack but i have to think about this for a while

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:18 (sixteen years ago)

i dunno, it might be patience testing, but it is so ultra-fetishistic (like all of these releases except errorsmith is the ne plus ultra). it's like what a whole shit-ton of industrial/EBM aspires to be except that other music strikes a pose and glowers as you while errorsmith ties you up and says, "you will like john zorn beyotch!!"

soundhack - epic laser-tooled house trax dj tools

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:25 (sixteen years ago)

i am partial to smith'n'hack and soundstream as well. i don't think i could pick a soundstream though because i think they are all really special. smith'n'hack was my introduction and makes an easy pick. hrm.

tricky, Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:25 (sixteen years ago)

ysi?

Home made ectoplasm (I am using your worlds), Sunday, 14 December 2008 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

does that mean anything?

sounds like an awesome happy accident to me. (although it is ripe for a deconstruction a la pick a dance music critic and imagine what they would say about the music because this happened to you. at least that's what popped into my head. like you could say something about the black-holes of musical cognitive dissonance at the edges of the sonic dance music continuum or talk about the similarities of the musical discourse vis a vis contemporary austere german rave and pre-rave british musics, etc, etc)

i like and play almost all of these. despite lacking a true anthem (like "donna", "good soul", "to our disco friends", etc), i have to say "Soundkit" is my personal favorite. the sounds, art, and track titles go together so well, and somehow it reminds me of old school Chicago house in a really great way. the one i usually play is "Ripping Chisel" but theyre all a good mix of experimental minimal and dancefloor banger.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

one month passes...

lol, the threads you miss when you hide polls. nobody voted for 'tribute'???

that last soundstream was easily one of the best releases of last year. picking just one from all this lot is hard though... maybe 'freakin'?

resident advice whore (haitch), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 22:16 (sixteen years ago)

missed this one but I'd have flipped a (3 sided!) coin between "Soundkit" "Soundhack 01" and "Soundhack 02". '01' is probably the one I play the most, and has the most 'straightforward' trax so I bet that one would have been my choice I think.

sous les paves, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

Also, Soundstream did the best remix of 'See Mi Yah'

Oh My Goodness that Rhythm and Sound Remix. Heard it only like a week ago, because of sorry, you may not vote for easy lee, moving like a train or see mi yah remixes and wow.

mehlt, Thursday, 19 February 2009 01:51 (sixteen years ago)

oh yes it's crucial. i didn't like his prosumer/marat tepeli remix much though - one of the handful of things i don't care for from the smith/hack axis. (maybe it was just the wrong track to re-do, soundstream coulda done wonders with 'makes me wanna dance' off that prosumer/tepeli record i think.)

resident advice whore (haitch), Thursday, 19 February 2009 04:08 (sixteen years ago)

remix of herbert ftw

stirmonster, Sunday, 2 September 2012 01:02 (thirteen years ago)

it's brand new to me. stopped me in my tracks. these two people don't make enough music.

jed_, Sunday, 2 September 2012 01:12 (thirteen years ago)

brimstead, Wednesday, 26 March 2014 02:50 (eleven years ago)

the sound stream stuff all has this huge bass rumble/wallop to it. how does he do it??

brimstead, Wednesday, 26 March 2014 02:53 (eleven years ago)

"all night" especially has this massive 3D low end that just sounds so so badass

brimstead, Wednesday, 26 March 2014 02:55 (eleven years ago)

he doesn't do much press, this was good though on his thought process (if not actual nuts-n-bolts production): http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1050

BARGEARSE (haitch), Wednesday, 26 March 2014 04:46 (eleven years ago)

One of the very few producers who I have all the solo stuff by. “Live” Goes On is probably my favourite though.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 26 March 2014 18:41 (eleven years ago)

two years pass...

managed to catch smith-n-hack 2 for a fiver at local hole-in-the-wall techno shop near the market - only missing soundhack 2 and MMM 2 from my smith-n-hackedex at this point.
