Am I the only person in the world who's hated 'Crazy' from day one? It always sounded like a crappy Jamiroquai song to me.

Were you not living on the planet earth the year "Hey Ya" was released? Shit was ubiquitous as it gets, probably more so than "Crazy" - although, to be fair, "Crazy" was more recent & therefore probably feels like it was more overplayed.

this. its more interesting musically. now it seems obvious but i remember when it first dropped it always took people awhile to figure out when they were supposed to clap

imo "hey ya" is pretty radical instrumentally as far as something coming from a rapper as well as something that got played on the radio 154 times a day. latter day 3k is truly corny (musically and otherwise) but the "hey ya" arrangement is unfuckwithable

don't really give a shit about either song, but i did jam "Crazy" about 10 times when i first heard it, before it became inescapable, so that.

never liked "Hey Ya" at all, even though I tend to nerd out on weird time signature stuff and do appreciate that it incorporates it in a slick way.

I think this is a key point, although the first time I ever heard "Crazy" was in some really cheap corny nightclub where it came between two Black Eyed Peas songs, and the place went crazy.

^^^^ this. when i first heard crazy i jammed it like by myself and stuff, but i don't think it packed dancefloors with ppl who might not otherwise dance in the way hey ya did and probably still does. kinda sick of both, but hey ya will be played at wedding parties for eternity, and probably for good reason

using "does it make ppl dance?" is a pretty dumb criteria

yeah maybe I'm just super cynical and always have been (ha, maybe), but I remember DLing "Hey Ya" off some ILM thread (don't remember which one or if I posted on it at the time?), and just kinda shaking my head and thinking it was super cheesy, pictured it getting played on MTV2 for a couple weeks before "The Way You Move" or some other more traditional Outkast song became the big hit off the album.

Voting for "Hey Ya" because it's like the one song that's guaranteed to get an "I love this song!" if you play it in a crowded room. Like, everyone enjoys it and gets into it and sings along to it. You can't really say that about "Crazy." Both amazing single-of-the-decade-worthy songs though.

I think it's amazing that "Crazy" is one of the biggest and most enduring songs of the decade, and yet it didn't even reach number one. Fuck the Billboard charts.

When i first heard of OUTKAST i thought Andre 3000 was gay. IDK, he does weird stuff with his outfits. lol. I know he has a daughter. He could be bisexual, though. I STILL LOVE HIM.

Hey ya is one song I really like, but at the same time if would not mind if I ever heard it again. I'm still not sick of Crazy. Musically I think it's about even, but Crazy's lyrics are very deep. I love those lyrics.

every blog on earth had tried to make me listen to crazy so much that it was already "overplayed" by the time i heard it for the first time and hated it.

at least i had a honeymoon of liking "hey ya" even if my friend's band's lolcover of it made me hate it even more

its so weird to me that anyone acts like one of these songs was so much more popular or widespread than the other -- dudes they were both everywhere and are both in the 'canon of classic overplayed shit'

So I guess it's a US/UK thing - over here "Hey Ya!" was one of the biggest, most inescapable crossover hits of the decade. But "Crazy" was a huge thing on the dancefloor and seven weeks at #2 is not some flash in the pan that nobody got sick of. I still hear it far too often for my liking.

No, scientifically speaking, Crazy is WAY, WAY better. I mean, I can understand having personal feelings and everything, but science is science and facts are facts.

Actually though, me, I'm on the fence. They're both the best song ever, but in completely different ways. Hey Ya is the best song for fun times, and Crazy is the best time for getting dreamy and thinking about.

actually the lyrics aren't bad, I take it back. I did get inspired and played Hey Ya on Singstar, and I think its lyrics are better though. Also I just played Singstar alone at 2am.
