Were you not living on the planet earth the year "Hey Ya" was released? Shit was ubiquitous as it gets, probably more so than "Crazy" - although, to be fair, "Crazy" was more recent & therefore probably feels like it was more overplayed.

imo "hey ya" is pretty radical instrumentally as far as something coming from a rapper as well as something that got played on the radio 154 times a day. latter day 3k is truly corny (musically and otherwise) but the "hey ya" arrangement is unfuckwithable

never liked "Hey Ya" at all, even though I tend to nerd out on weird time signature stuff and do appreciate that it incorporates it in a slick way.

I think this is a key point, although the first time I ever heard "Crazy" was in some really cheap corny nightclub where it came between two Black Eyed Peas songs, and the place went crazy.

^^^^ this. when i first heard crazy i jammed it like by myself and stuff, but i don't think it packed dancefloors with ppl who might not otherwise dance in the way hey ya did and probably still does. kinda sick of both, but hey ya will be played at wedding parties for eternity, and probably for good reason

yeah maybe I'm just super cynical and always have been (ha, maybe), but I remember DLing "Hey Ya" off some ILM thread (don't remember which one or if I posted on it at the time?), and just kinda shaking my head and thinking it was super cheesy, pictured it getting played on MTV2 for a couple weeks before "The Way You Move" or some other more traditional Outkast song became the big hit off the album.

Voting for "Hey Ya" because it's like the one song that's guaranteed to get an "I love this song!" if you play it in a crowded room. Like, everyone enjoys it and gets into it and sings along to it. You can't really say that about "Crazy." Both amazing single-of-the-decade-worthy songs though.

So I guess it's a US/UK thing - over here "Hey Ya!" was one of the biggest, most inescapable crossover hits of the decade. But "Crazy" was a huge thing on the dancefloor and seven weeks at #2 is not some flash in the pan that nobody got sick of. I still hear it far too often for my liking.
