RFI: Dark, glitchy folk/country

like Nebraska run through autotune or Digital Ash in a Digital Urn without the whole connor oberst thing

I'm looking for stuff that's dark and maybe has elements of "futuristic sounding" digital trickery but is still kinda folksy

I'm writing a loosely rural sci-fi if that helps at all

things that are like "packt like sardines in a crushd tin box" will do as well

Only heard it once, but the last record (I think) by indie bluegrass act the Bad Livers had techno elements.

Some Capitol K songs are like this, when Kristian uses an acoustic guitar. Like "Anon" off Island Row.

I didn't see the "folk" part. Yeah, Hoos, you should run through the Capitol K catalog, including the latest one from this year.

i remember Hood sounding kind of like this. The description "dark, glitchy folk/country" makes me think Drag City/post-rock in general though i can't think of anything specific. you should try "laughing stock" by talk talk if you haven't already.

conceptually it's kinda like Pole (glitchy drum machine) but you know... with a title like that how can it dissapoint?

but definitely has the otherworldly earthy vibe going

10000 maniacs 'hope chest', more out than you would expect, i think there have been threads on it before. somewhere.

Hosono's side project "World Standard" might be up your alley. People with real glitch/programming chops don't also tend to be great songwriters, and people who are great songwriters often necessarily equipped to realize "glitch" per se, so maybe this is a hard area to quantify.

also maybe authentic celestial music by the dirty three?? someone above mentioned califone - heron king blues has this but its more textured than glitchy, i think.

it seems like you are perfectly describing califone. i also second the ekkehard ehlers. and dirty three is great but there's nothing too glitchy about them.

how about 'the civil war' by matmos? or john fahey's 'womblife' (produced by jim o'rourke)?

nothing glitchy about moon pix either. the glitch is in the snatch. 'womblife' kind of blows.
