TS: "Pop! Goes My Heart" vs. "Let's Go to the Mall"

PoP! - "Pop! Goes My Heart"
For those who don't remember, this 1984 hit, along with "Meaningless Kiss," were UK pop duo PoP!'s biggest international hit. Band member Colin Thompson went on to greater heights with his solo career, while Thompson's partner Alex Fletcher has recently resurfaced behind the scenes as a hit songwriter.

Robin Sparkles - "Let's Go to the Mall"
This hilariously dated Canadian hit from 1993 was Robin Sparkles' only major release, with follow-up "Sandcastles in the Sand" failing to make a major dent. Sparkles (real name Robin Scherbatsky) has not resurfaced in the pop scene.

This is so weird. I don't think I've ever heard of Robin Sparkles or heard that song before. It was a hit? Really? (I was kind of hoping this would be about Naked Aggression.) The other song is totally better even though it kind of sounds sub-PSB.

"It was a hit? Really?"

Of course it was really a hit. It was the most real of real hits that ever existed. The barest hint of research could have told you that. How could you not know that? Surely, there must be dozens of fansites for Robin Sparkles.

She does so have a wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Scherbatsky

"Let's Go To The Mall" wins simply because it rhymes "coat" with "about"; something you can only do in Canada, and something that's so brilliantly, unselfconsciously Canadian that it could only have come from the mind of a genius. A mad, mad, mad, mad genius. A mad genius of Canadian extraction. Or maybe from a Californian who's met a Canadian, and who doesn't have a tin ear for accents.

I honestly can't choose between the two. As far as the video goes, though, I have to give it to the "Let's Go to the Mall" just for the robot, an awesome, non-obvious but accurate peroid detail.
