Following the release of his well tasty compilation packed with ILM faves ( soz for my generalisation ) and his crackin radio show that no-one hears unless they has no life ( or tapes it) does the Don of Radio One deserve all the abuse - shouldn't he be allowed to be how he wants to be ?

... coz I think him doin the US b-boy schtick iz bollocks now that UK rap has gone full metal jacket in delivering the goods in such a big way.

I listen jus for the moment you cringe when he says stuff like -'Ow iz yaa cru - Ize bin chillin atma crib'

Hmmm..... although i have nowt against what he's playing, i just think that he himself is just a real life Ali-G... Where he gets that crazy accent from, one is not to know and probably an invention of his own

"Bellamy had almost reached the airlock when the ship screamed like a wounded god."

Even MY irony chip (set way above stun), can't function in these conditions. Fool among fools. Who IS his audience?

Yo doodz, Dirty Vicar in da house! RESPEKT! Are you unable to spell, or does talking about hiphop require an affected "street" patois?

I remember seeing him on Jo Whiley's show a while ago. It's usually pretty rubbish, but he made it absolutely hilarious. A very silly man indeed.

As the esteemed Racer hints, Westwood's persona has come to seem more and more absurd as hip-hop has become less and less specifically American, but he adopted that patois while on pirates in the 80s, when hip-hop was still seen as a new and possibly short-lived thing, and really I can't see him changing it now. It *is* exaggerated, of course, but a) I admire people who completely reinvent themselves and b) it shows how important a station Radio 1 still is in the UK; if Westwood and Trevor Nelson were still on London-only stations, as they were in the early 90s, I don't think hip-hop and R&B would have exploded nationally in the last few years as they have.

Of course he deserves the abuse - he is bigging himself as the hip- hop voice of the nation but plays US hip-hop, kisses the butts of ALL US artists and thinks he's the epitomy of street cool - yeah right!! If someone was just getting into the music and tuned into Radio 1 they would not hear good UK hip-hop. We need a champion for home- grown talent not. I'd just like an explanantion from him (written as I can't tolerate his false voice or patois if we're being posh!!!) as to why he thinks he can get away with what he does, week in, week out. There is a legal campaign to get rid of him based on the Broadcasting Bill - anyone interested??????

Tim Westwood... Rep him to the fullest. He's the only dj in the uk who's up on all the latest hip hop, not only from the usa but he represents the uk scene aswell. Yo Westwood hold it down baby!!!

How is Westwood NOT the best thing on commercial radio? Yeah, so he's 'fake' and not really a gangsta (tho he did take a bullet) but who cares when the music is THIS good. besides that, his appearance on that halfords advert ("cyceeel helmuuuuts seeex nighty nine") waas the only thing that got me through my 2 weeks work experience in Cycle King. Respeck and props due to tha man Westwood.

the grime show he does on 1xtra, though i keep missing it, is especially hilarious when he has no idea who anyone is. and they know he doesnt. the cussing matches between him and some grime MC who took it a bit too seriously a few months back was pretty unusual compared to his hip hop shows too - these guys dont respect westwood like most of the hip hop artists do.
