this wasn't a bad year! "single ladies" by a pretty wide margin for me, though

k3vin k., Friday, 19 December 2008 08:14 (seventeen years ago)

oh fuck should have voted lollipop

K DEF FROM REAL LIVE (deej), Friday, 19 December 2008 08:16 (seventeen years ago)

so much better than the UK no 1s. this fucking country. weird though b/c (apart from leona), none of the good songs here are even the best offering from the artists in question this year.

whatever you like > bleeding love > touch my body > low > lollipop > single ladies > disturbia > womanizer > the rest

lex pretend, Friday, 19 December 2008 08:58 (seventeen years ago)

Torn between "Love in this Club", "Take a Bow" and "Low". Probably gonna incline to Rihanna.

Weren't you the big "IKaG" booster?

USICMAKEULOSECONTROL (The Reverend), Friday, 19 December 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

I guess... I still like the song, just like the others more. The only songs that I don't like are the last three.

The Brainwasher, Friday, 19 December 2008 21:40 (seventeen years ago)

"take a bow" being one of the worst songs ever

The Brainwasher, Friday, 19 December 2008 21:41 (seventeen years ago)

Womanizer

Kinda bland, but oh come now.

USICMAKEULOSECONTROL (The Reverend), Friday, 19 December 2008 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not particularly qualified to discuss US #1s but I like "Take A Bow."

"Touch My Body"

total mormon cockblock extravaganza (jaymc), Monday, 22 December 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

the 2nd-best t.i. single of the year is also the best #1 of the year...

tipsy mothra, Monday, 22 December 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

Only downside to "Whatever You Like" was first hearing the song when I saw the video, and the video is kind of cold-blooded.

Eazy, Monday, 22 December 2008 22:12 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

i don't think i adequately expressed my contempt for I Kissed a Girl through that graph, oh well.

well, lists of #1s of a year are never really as good as you expect them to be. I'd bet that a collection of #2 songs would be a lot better.

miss precious perfect (musically), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

"Now You're Gone" is better than every track on this list, but p4p the US list is better.

John Harris buying a toaster (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 01:52 (seventeen years ago)

okay, I had to check, there were only three songs that peaked at #2 in 2008:

January 26, 2008 "With You" Chris Brown
May 10, 2008 "Forever" Chris Brown
August 30, 2008 "Crush" David Archuleta

obvs The Rev and I will disagree about one in particular but for me 66% of those songs are aces

miss precious perfect (musically), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 01:53 (seventeen years ago)

Eh, the only ones I'd consider an 8/10 or above are the Wayne, Coldplay, Leona and "Live Your Life", and I wouldn't consider any of them a 10/10. Most years shoot better than that.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 23 December 2008 02:13 (seventeen years ago)

Viva La Vida iTunes commercial > the actual song

I forgot who said it on ILM, but under all the production there's a great song there

miss precious perfect (musically), Tuesday, 23 December 2008 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

I guess if I'm gonna rate them out of ten, I'd go:

9/10
1. Lollipop
2. Live Your Life

8/10
3. Viva la Vida
4. Bleeding Love

7/10
5. Touch My Body
6. Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)

6/10
7. Low
8. Disturbia
9. Whatever You Like

5/10
10. Take a Bow

4/10
11. So What
12. Love In This Club

2/10
13. Womanizer

0/10
14. I Kissed a Girl

xp: I like all the production and the song, too
