hip-hop dance instructor (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 25 December 2008 10:09 (seventeen years ago)

Hmm.

OK, let's rise to the challenge.

Lame-o female announcer, harsh, quasi-Ibiza synths, a very straightforward, uncomplicated beat...not promising much thus far. His flow is monotonous; almost mumbled; it's hard to actually pick up what he's saying. I'll go back to the start of the verse and listen more closely.

OK, it seems to be composed mainly of US place-names. So far, so inspired.

UGH, clean vocals in the chorus are LAME. I know that self-aggrandisement is one of the tenets of hip-hop, but these guys are witless and artless. They have no wordpley, no style.

This video is shit as well. Is it some sort of parody? At one point (2:26), two of Khaled's minions appear to be trying to hump each other.

This second verse is a slight improvement; the synths are less garish. Quit with the bass drum already, though!

The dude they recruit to do the outro has a more interesting flow. He's clearly the talented one. Still no great shakes, though.

pretty bittersweet about the inclusion of mmts

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 17:45 (sixteen years ago)

i'll be surprised if Jeezy and Wayne are still on the final version, it was hilarious how "Out Here Grindin" kept shedding its big names until the album was like strictly B-list stars

Burt's SBs (some dude), Monday, 13 July 2009 17:54 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, i think there was something fishy there, cuz they were like "oh, wayne couldn't make it to the video shoot, so we dropped him!" which doesn't really make that much sense to me esp because wayne shows up for every single video, even like "official girl" or that song where david banner sampled his "lollipop" vocals and he didn't even have a verse

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 17:57 (sixteen years ago)

there was an amusing wayne interview circa the C3 release where the talked about how many songs he'd been dropped from after recording verses that were leaked before their 'official' releases -- i'm guessing a lot of people ask for verses then the label nixes it when it's time to clear it and they see how much the invoice is for

Burt's SBs (some dude), Monday, 13 July 2009 18:02 (sixteen years ago)

i mean LW talks about how he chages everybody -- “I wouldn’t do a song for my sister for less than $75,000" -- but that can't be true, can it? do Playaz Circle have that kind of money to throw around for a remix that gets spins for like 2 days and then disappears?

Burt's SBs (some dude), Monday, 13 July 2009 18:05 (sixteen years ago)

yeah he def does favors, unless glasses malone is in possession of a lil wayne/birdman blowjob photo

rubberband canks (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 July 2009 18:08 (sixteen years ago)

and if i was a label exec and i heard some sub-"i can't believe it" warble mush i'd probably drop him too

http://seanpercival.s3.amazonaws.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/b5fdhu1-453x302.jpg

Update: It appears the driver shot himself and may be dead on the scene.

this is so far and away my favorite wikipedia fact that i would be content with them shutting down the whole site and just having this posted in plain type when you went to "wikipedia.org"

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 07:35 (sixteen years ago)

man... when i took summer classes i would bring my computer cuz they were 2 hours long & i needed some entertainment... and i remember exactly what we were talking about on the day that this thread was going on cuz when i read that sentence on wiki i was trying to stifle genuine rofl laughter and i sounded like such a jackass in this dead silent class

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 07:38 (sixteen years ago)

man this song is trash

& the chorus doesn't even make sense -- t-pain says that they always keep their hands up and then chants "up! down! up! down!" etc -- makes me wonder if him and akon only write barely sensical choruses because they are too lazy or because that's kind of just part of the legacy of the dj khaled musical oeuvre

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 07:46 (sixteen years ago)

If all you do is win, it doesn't matter if the hook makes sense.

The Reverend, Monday, 15 February 2010 07:49 (sixteen years ago)

that's what i figured

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 07:50 (sixteen years ago)

what happens if t-pain & dj khaled were to face off in some sort of competition? would the loser end up walking around miami in a zombie-like daze after having their core belief totally shattered at the hands of a former confidant?

nagl wayne (J0rdan S.), Monday, 15 February 2010 07:51 (sixteen years ago)

I think T-Pain does things other than win, this is just Khaled who only wins.

pretty disappointed w/ how it turned out (allowing for the fact that obv dj khaled is going to give you retarded quotes), i.e. ending on some "well, yeah, duh..." non-ending like "at least he won't be working at mcdonalds!!" and spending the whole story speculating on the current power & cache of dj khaled without trying to get any other sources on record that might help enlighten us on the situation (i.e. instead of saying that khaled is "seemingly ill-defined" as president of def jam south and leaving it at that, w3sthoff could've, idk, asked some people [incl khaled!] what khaled's role was there and how it's going and what he does etc) -- in general i'm not a fan of this guy at all tho
