I'd probably vote for "Life on the Clouds" (from Meshes) if it appeared on Helium in place of "Dancing on a Star." It unfolds so beautifully with the unassuming guitar intro, 2-minute-long repetition of the chorus, and a cappella bit at the end. It's a shame they had to mess with it on the renamed LP version, which suffers from a slightly overstuffed arrangement (the chimey alarm clock sounds don't help) and less pleasing structure overall. Still, even though their instincts weren't always in the right place at that point, the clunky experimentalism on Helium makes it a more interesting listen than the albums that came after it, though The Museum of Imaginary Animals is probably just as good.

Could someone please remind Rosie to put a box set together or at least reissue all their '90s albums with the EPs as bonus tracks? Pram is Stereolab's miserly cousin when it comes to making their stuff available to fans, and there has to be some demand for it, right?
