as inappropriate as the title and sentiment are for these climes, i'm already stuck on "summertime clothes".

jermainetwo, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:21 (seventeen years ago)

my bloody animal collective

Zeno, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:23 (seventeen years ago)

thanks

Beatrix Kiddo, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:27 (seventeen years ago)

now i just need to hear the final version! but that'll come in time. promos have gotta go out at SOME point. meantime i've been all about the live versions.

also: revisited Strawberry Jam for comparison's sake a few days back, and every reason i didn't like most of that album came flooding back to me - it just seems too...contained, structured. i think that's part of why MMP appeals so much, it's like they took the washing waves of synth ball and ran with it, let it all loose, let it flow...

Beatrix Kiddo, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

Why haven't you heard the final version? It's all over the internets.

Hatch, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

it's way better than Strawberry:
the vocals arent shouted, and the songwriting is consistently great through the whole thing.
plus, it takes more or less one path of production style and goes with it all the way through the record, which might sound boring after a while, but it doesnt.

Zeno, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:35 (seventeen years ago)

at first impression: tracks 1-5 are the poppier, accesible side of the record, and all of them are amazing.
after that, it takes some digging to "get" the songs, but it gets accesible again from Lion In A Coma, through the Buckingham style ballad No More Runnin' to Brothersport.

Beatrix Kiddo, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

just found it, finally. get it while you can.

Beatrix Kiddo, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

zeno, was it you mentioning buckingham influence on the record in the other thread? i don't really know where to start with his stuff but am kinda curious.
side b of the record is pretty special.

schlump, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

i would start with a little band called FLEETWOOD MAC

eman cipation s1ocklamation (max), Friday, 26 December 2008 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

", it's like they took the washing waves of synth ball and ran with it, let it all loose, let it flow..."

yeah i think that adds to the clssic PSYCHEDELIC atmosphere they tried to acheive, sometimes it reminds me of that 60's band - White Noise

Zeno, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:49 (seventeen years ago)

about solo Buckingham - i like Under The Skin best -
"someone's gonna change your mind" could be an AC song, for example.or the opposite.

with fleetwood mac - Tusk of course

Zeno, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:54 (seventeen years ago)

And of course the sublime Buckingham Nicks album.

Hatch, Friday, 26 December 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

all of them are the musical sons of Brian Wilson.

btw if "no more runnin" could be a Buckingham song - also frightend is an outtake of Piper at the gates

Zeno, Friday, 26 December 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

Must've been a pretty lousy Christmas Day for the Web Sheriff, huh?

Hatch, Friday, 26 December 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

they knew he would celebrate and took the advantage

Zeno, Friday, 26 December 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

Did anyone read the interview with them in the wire where they claimed not to really care about the Beach Boys, except for Dennis Wilson.

Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 26 December 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks for an actual link Beatrix. Wasn't that email sent by the geologist fake tho? I recall reading it was sent by a fan who hacked his account.

Moka, Friday, 26 December 2008 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

it's also on slsk but you have to dig it out carefully among all the live versions

Zeno, Friday, 26 December 2008 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

get a life morans

cutty, Friday, 26 December 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

nine months pass...

i didn't have to work today so i slept in, then took two hits off a joint and went on a great ~4 mile run, listening to this album. I came up a hill to the river levy just as Daily Routine climaxed and the drone part began. It was pretty amazing.

auuuuuu!!!! sexy ledy, my favorite anomal! (Whitey on the Moon), Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:23 (sixteen years ago)

i just can't get over the sound of this album, meaning that there are some cool ideas but i hate listening to it.

Ømår Littel (Jordan), Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:26 (sixteen years ago)

great running album. it's good for me on shuffle because whenever brosport comes on all of a sudden there's five, six minutes of turbo sprinting

kamerad, Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

I still haven't even heard this album. Honestly, I've only heard parts of I think 2 songs from it, and Animal Collective is without a doubt one of may favourite bands (due to somewhat obsessive compulsive reasoning, I never download full albums, and won't download something off an album if I know I'm going to buy it. I just never got around to getting the album, and have since forgot).
