Oxes -- along with Ex Models, The Seconds, Pink & Brown, and Transformer Lootbag -- are one of those bands that fill that "angular rock" void for me, since Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 and Trumans Water are no longer releasing records on a regular basis.
Can someone recommend any others in this vein? Concentrating more on odd guitar sounds in a vehicle of momentum more than odd time signatures. I heard there was a Boston two-piece that were pretty amazing, but I forget their name.. the Vehicles? or something like that...

i never saw them live, which seems like a stupid oversight on my part. chris and his brother mickey are the best dudes, though.

I saw them maybe five times and they were always great, but the first time I ever saw them was at this bar, Big V's in St Paul, which was (and still is) just an old man, hard drinking bar that for a few yrs had awesome shows. It was a weekday night and not a huge crowd, lots of regulars sitting at the far end away from the stage and Oxes were chasing these dudes into the bathroom & outside onto the street while they were smoking, etc. It was funny, but also kind of scary.
God they were something else.

yeah saw them maybe 2 or 3 times, such a good show -- at one of them the guitarists actually left the venue and continued to play their parts via wireless. Later the same show their soundguy took over on the drums for a song.

^ Oxes in 2008 at Whartscape. they still play occasionally, they even put out a new record in 2011 or 2012 called BILE STBUDY (it's great)

That was a great interview. Somehow I completely never paid any attention to this band, though they were probably up my alley.
