Who is Vitalic?

Well?
I have three excellent mp3s of his tracks, but I need more. Who else does this style of techno/electro? I could only find Poney EP in his discography. Is there a connection to the Two Lone Swordsmen?

www.vitalic.org !

if you like that, check out the "international deejay gigolo" label

i don't think there's a connection with two lone swordsmen.

Johan, Tuesday, 4 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you could try listening to ural 13 diktators... download 'death before disko'

Or better even Name Of The Game. Abba meets Kraftwerk, hooray!

That Vitalic track La Rock is fucking unholy genius. God it just comes from underground somewhere and explodes. I want to scream like an animal everytime it kicks in and I'm walking down the street. I swear today I was listening to it with the volume cranked up and the bass fx all on on my discman, that riff just rolled into action and I was crossing the street, I had to restrain myself. I wanted to jump in the air I'm telling you, I kind of punched my fists together, I physically had to do SOMETHING.

Moments like that are what music is all about I guess. For me, anyway.

Ronan, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That Vitalic track La Rock is fucking unholy genius

agreed. i can still vividly remember the first time i heard it. i was at the free st. kilda street festival, which included a daytime techno party on a grassy knoll by the sea. it was called 'barina beatz' after its sponsor. the dj was inside a tipi. i was with a non- techno-loving, in fact techno-sneering, friend, so we were kind of standing on the sidelines and i was tapping my feet sadly. but then this monstrous track arrived with its ever-unstable zooming and the pounding drums, and i tried to restrain myself but it just kept getting louder and louder...

total fucking unholy genius; harder, better, faster, stronger. evil primitive bass, demonic synth-stabs, 'La Rock' 'Cocaine' a ferocious live-set i AGed, but back to the original question; who the hell are they of him/her? www.vitalic.org gives me nothing.

Supposedly he's from Ukraine although I've also read he's French.

Anyway find the Live @ Shockers DJ-set. Out of this world.

Anyone heard the Shari Vari remix with the Hacker?

GIVE ME MORE VITALIC! I love the way they drop that thumping Kid Kreme remix of Thrill Me by Junior Jack, you were house! Now you're techno!

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I am getting sick of waiting for him to make an album, can we start a UN petition or something.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll sign!

adaml (adaml), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:46 (twenty-two years ago)

if you're terribly sick of waiting for new vitalic you could do worse than picking up the new mixed compilation on the dancefloor killers label. i think it's called "mixed by dj tonio" or something like that. it's got david caretta and vitalic and a bunch of more obscure french dudes like al ferox and so on.

somehow they manage to mix in a bit of gloomcore / acardiapane flavor into the mix too. lots of crazy sub-bass and riffs that are halfway between glam and doom, references to satanism and voodoo and drug psychoses.

nothing quite as epic as "la rock 01" (and there probably won't be until at least 2005) but quite a bit of stuff just as good as "poney" or "you prefer cocaine".

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

actually it's not "new" anymore it's about a year old.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Vitalic goes by the name of Dima occasionally, so I've heard. I've finally managed to order 'Poney' online. Can you feel my anticipation?

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

A couple of months ago I found a short interview with him and now I can't find it anywhere. Frustrating. It wasn't terribly informative, but it gave his real name (which I can't recall) and yeah, he was born in Ukraine in '73. Played in punk bands, etc.

I can't wait for that Silures stuff to come out. Sometimes I go to the Citizen site just to listen to that loop for a little while.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard his name somewhere, is it Victor or something? I think Anna said she talked to him before, apparently he can fly and only appears on days of the week with a U in them. They say he was raised by bears and Umek.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

- his Discogs entry.
- an interview in spanish

I've seen him live at Dance Valley and it was amazing - 50 minutes of nonstop Vitalic tunes, two Poney EP tracks and the rest new stuff. He does that wheezy robot voice live, interestingly. The tent in which he played was massively empty though - hundred people at best.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

His remixes are amazing too. Look out for the aforementioned the Hacker & Vitalic remix of "Shari Vari" by A Number Of Names, the Vitalic Vocal Mix of "Visions" by Slam feat Dot Allison, and the Dima Neo-Romantic Remix of Bolz-Bolz' "Take a walk".

His first name is Pascal, but that's all I know...

Seb, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

the sliures stuff is out now. will report back when i've got round to listening to it.

Dima Neo-Romantic Remix of Bolz-Bolz' "Take a walk".

Fuck! You mean that's by Vitalic?? Whadda guy.

Omar (Omar), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

reporting back. hmmmm, i wish there were dub mixes.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

there was a decent track by 12 angry men called looser which is very much like Vitalic, stay away from the awful a-side though.

I saw him in Manchester over the weekend. It was excellent, save for the fact that I was neither drunk nor on any form of drugs and it was 3 in the morning. Excellent set, nonetheless.

lol talk about an artist that was absolutely killer for 4 years and then completely fell off the creative cliff.

remember him saying in an interview that having quit cocaine, he knew he would never make music as good again

brimstead, Thursday, 21 May 2020 06:05 (five years ago)

Poney EP, Fanfares, the Silures EP - if he'd never done anything else, he'd still be incredibly-sick-pantheon-worthy

Bleeqwot (sic), Thursday, 21 May 2020 06:17 (five years ago)

a nice semi obscure gem from the pre OK Cowboy days is this raw electro revival track “pc100” from some random comp, it departs from the template but still has a monochromatic semi-blown out vibe... like the terrifying horse rotovators in the poney EP were all converted into breakdancing robot gremlins or something

brimstead, Thursday, 21 May 2020 06:17 (five years ago)

PONEY PT. 1
I eat very tempo reap
Working in the fun fair
Hope it was the agony
It was up, 'twas in a pea
Also taking at a peak
Turning 'round, turning again
It was poetry, agony
But it was not on the LRT

Hans Holbein (Chinchilla Volapük), Monday, 7 March 2022 06:44 (three years ago)

PONEY PT. 2
I'm just very tempo heat
Working in the fun fair
Life was never been easy
That's not life, that's a nightmare
I regress, it comfort me
Never seen the country
It will charge you a buck to ride me
Please don't touch my total wheels
Anchor do the same with you
And what did brutal hut touched
False to take a rotted beak
Bet you rippled just like me
