kinda like choosing a favorite eyeball, i know. both from the bronx, both songs that are better known for their parenthetical titles, both dope as hell. but there can BE ONLY ONE. i am voting for the lo but i think tariq and gunz will take it due to ilms dan obsession.

vs

clean version of above eliminates infamous peter gunz lyrics

Camp Lo, actually put that on on New Year's Eve as I drank my first beer to get myself hyped up.

what U cry 4 (jim), Monday, 5 January 2009 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

Luchini, no contest.

Always dissappointed that Deja Vu didn't make better use of Black Cow sample.

Luchini bettered the Dynasty sample (and that's saying a lot as I LOVE that Dynasty song).

please vote contrarian in 09. we need your support. (PappaWheelie V), Monday, 5 January 2009 01:56 (seventeen years ago)

LUCHINI

swamp buggy badass (negotiable), Monday, 5 January 2009 02:13 (seventeen years ago)

Always loved "Deja Vu", but this ain't even a thing.

The Reverend, Monday, 5 January 2009 02:31 (seventeen years ago)

I never noticed before how Deja Vu didn't even beef up the Steely Dan drums at all. It is kind of a weak use of a great sample.

Luchini in any case. Deja Vu has a good hook but lyrically it kind of sux imho.

ichard Thompson (Hurting 2), Monday, 5 January 2009 03:36 (seventeen years ago)

Also Luchini brings back very specific memories of getting schooled on hip-hop by high school friends. And Camp Lo had a pretty original, non-generic flow that still sounds refreshing.

ichard Thompson (Hurting 2), Monday, 5 January 2009 03:40 (seventeen years ago)

well im kinda glad my initial impression of each track's relative popularity seems to have been so wildly off base. lyrically camp lo definitely reigns supreme -- 'we float the tri state draped in the satin vines/the coolie high jack pack from the sugar shack' vs 'i guarantee you peter/knows how to eat her/ and beat her'

plus they look about 19 in the video, and like they can't quite believe they're in the midst of having a hit single

uptown churl, Monday, 5 January 2009 08:29 (seventeen years ago)

luchini. and the album was awesome too.

it's like dude you dont' even know that cat, it might be an asshole (stevie), Monday, 5 January 2009 09:47 (seventeen years ago)

luchini

choom gangsta (deej), Monday, 5 January 2009 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

the rapping on Deja Vu is so goddamn limp and lifeless. Luchini by a country mile.

expletive for lady parts (Granny Dainger), Monday, 5 January 2009 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

luchini prob holds the longevity record for song that has never completely left my extended party down elite 100 rotation. and yeah, agree that the whole album is class.

lumdi is awesome... that smokey robinson sample is so cool.

imagine a super-serious, really noir mcgruff (stevie), Thursday, 15 January 2009 10:09 (seventeen years ago)

I never realized the Luchini sample was so direct -- it sounds so broken up and sped up/slowed down that I assumed it had been much more fucked with.
