ooh. top three are lifetime, headhunters, and mahavishnu, but honestly i spent the most time listening to mahavishnu (+ the first headhunters album).

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 5 January 2009 17:34 (seventeen years ago)

This is tough.

what U cry 4 (jim), Monday, 5 January 2009 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

mahavishnu or herbie hancock/headhunters

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 5 January 2009 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

Need to hear more Lifetime. Of the stuff I am familiar with it's Hancock.

Alex in SF, Monday, 5 January 2009 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

Forgot to leave an "other" button, although it's hard to think of another band that belongs with these.

ichard Thompson (Hurting 2), Monday, 5 January 2009 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, there are the brecker bros., and minor bands like brand x and the eleventh house, but i can't think of any other blockbusters.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 5 January 2009 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

although the brecker bros. sold way more records than lifetime, i'm guessing

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 5 January 2009 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

I'm going to assume the Hancock option includes pre-Head-Hunters stuff like Crossings and Sextant, so that.

Brad C., Monday, 5 January 2009 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

Definitely Mahavishnu for me. Just picked up The Trident Sessions last week, so it may just be because I've been on a huge kick lately.

i've heard some lifetime and it sounds awesome, same w/headhunters...

don't think i've heard the "good" weather report but i really hate heavy weather....

but yeah i've listened to the 1st 2 mahavishnu records so much and really really love them

I wanted to vote for Tower Of Power, but I guess they don't count as fusion.

ilx chilton (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 5 January 2009 18:32 (seventeen years ago)

this is impossible btw

stop HOOSing a boring tuna (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 5 January 2009 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

trident sessions is awesome.

lifetime always seems like such a great idea (tony williams playing rock! garage fusion!) but it never stuck in my head, although it's been a few years since i heard any. now i want to hear some.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 5 January 2009 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

I don't care much for Weather Report or Return To Forever, to fusiony. Will check out some Lifetime to make my vote more scientific but I'm pretty sure it comes down to Hancock in the end.

sonderangerbot, Monday, 5 January 2009 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

guitar hero/rock band should add some return to forever tracks.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Monday, 5 January 2009 19:03 (seventeen years ago)

no spyro gyra, no credibility

but i mean i voted for lifetime

69, Monday, 5 January 2009 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

Hancock's Mwandishi albums stomp all over the Headhunters stuff (except the Japan-only live album, Flood). But I'll probably vote Mahavishnu.

Anybody else heard the bootlegs of the McLaughlin/Santana band (feat. Larry Young) that toured the U.S. in 1973, after Love Devotion Surrender came out. Pretty great stuff.

unperson, Monday, 5 January 2009 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

69, i really LOVE joe zawinul's pre weather report solo s/t album, is early weather report in the same vein (it's almost the same dudes)

voted herbie/headhunters. thanks to ilm I've done a major rediscovery on hancock's fusion lps over the last year. and the bennie maupin-led headhunters rocked.

"I'm going to assume the Hancock option includes pre-Head-Hunters stuff like Crossings and Sextant, so that."

What he said.

But King Crimson is better than all of them.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

I know labels ain't cool and all, but King Crimson is more prog rock than jazz fusion.

ichard Thompson (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 6 January 2009 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Tony Williams Lifetime and Mahavishnu only have 2 albums that I listen to and I listen to more Weather Report, admittedly I have a large capacity for jazz-fusion-cheese, than all of the other options. Something says to me Herbie, but on the other hand, despite Mahavishnu not having all that much that I like, I like the stuff I like so much taht I'm going to go for them. Haven't actually heard more than one or two tracks of Return to forever.

Women can be captains too, you know? (jim), Friday, 9 January 2009 00:59 (seventeen years ago)
