Pft. Eminem rhymes about killing his girlfriend. Sid Vicious actually did it.

not bothering to define punk i'd say sex pistols because eminem is really boring and staid now. he actually said in his song that it's his 'place' to be controversial. that's a very medieval and counter- revolutionary view of the rock world.

The 'rock world'? Revolutionary?

Eminem hasn't inspired any Griel Marcus tomes yet, so it's gotta be him.

Eminem vs the Sex Pistols: the sort of conversation Q journalists have at dinner parties.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 5 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eh mr. killgoths at q it would be 'oasis vs the sex pistols: who would look better on the cover?' spin dinner party: 'britney vs the sex pistols: who is cuter?'

Only heard the new Eminem song once while in a sports store and couldnt help wondering if it was the speakers or is there a hell of alot of reverb on his voice in that song?

The Sex Pistols were more punk, in that they were punk. Eminem is more hip hop, I think you'll find.

As for simply taking sides, I am an old punk and have enthusiastically defended it several times on ILX. However, Eminem all the way, because he's even funnier than Johnny and he's doing interesting things now, and I've listened to Marshall Mathers more since it came out than anything else, probably, and he's made three terrific albums and there's only really one by the Pistols. And I'd always be far more inclined to support someone doing it now rather than having done it then (this does not mean I like the Stereophonics better than the Rolling Stones, obv).
