El cantante Sandro

I forgot where, must have stumbled upon in back in my limewire days, but I came across this fascinating, Argentine singer Sandro. He reminds me of '70s latinas' kitchens with the window open, sound is like absolutely emotional singing with drony get-the-fuck-out-now lovecries; blunt, simple drumming, lovely brassline, genuine guitar strumming. Anyone know anything similar? I crave more.

Check out his "Lo Mejor de Sandro", got a copy from a mini-record store in Mexico, so may be sparse.

I am sad but not surprised. I read that he had been ill since the fall.

"But the rock-and-roll lifestyle eventually caught up on him. Last year, he revealed that his smoking habit had left him in need of major surgery. "My life is my bed, my spot in the dining room where I read the newspaper, and from there I do not move," he said. "I am to blame for the condition that I am in. I deserve it; I sought it out. I picked up this damn cigarette." "

I wonder if Morrisey has heard him. Seems like something he'd like.

A lot of his songs are slow and melodramatic but his uptempo numbers are rockin'. He was a fabulous singer though with killer good looks.

He was a mainstay - on NYC area Spanish-language radio and TV - growing up in the 70's. I loved singing "Una Muchacha y Una Guitarra" as a little kid. Adios, Sandro.
