Is MBV's Ecstacy and Wine a legit release or a boot?

Also, what does it sound like? More like the first album, or more like Loveless?

Um, I'm not sure, but I sure am happy to have it! It actually sounds, well, not much like either one (assuming by "first album" you mean "Isn't Anything" and not the Great Unnamed Goth Disaster album), but it's great noise and great pop, with less sophisticated production and maybe even more sickly sweet wonderful hooks. You'll be glad you got it if you get it (and you will... ;-)

It's legit, though out of print. It's a collection of singles and EPs rather than being an album, and is a snapshot of them vaguely evolving towards where they ended up...

The original LP was legitimate, but for some reason or another the band had the original CD version pulled prematurely, after only a 1500-2000 copies were shipped. There's been a recent "reissue" that I severely doubt had the band's approval. The music is the same (although Strawberry Wine is best on the 12" single) but the quality of the printing of the artwork is shoddy at best.

Speaking of boots, I saw this amazing looking MBV boot of most of their pre-Creation stuff - It wasn't that "pre-creation rarities" CD that you constantly see on eBay but a proper LP - and the cover was completely ace. I've never seen one at all before. Apparently the "re- releases by MBV" 7" came free with this boot but I've seen many copies of the 7" and no others of the LP...

My Bloody Valentine - Ecstacy And Wine CD - Lazy Records (Dutch import/bootleg?)
Strange packaging leads me to believe this is a bootleg; however, when held side by side with an original copy, the only difference is a different colortone. Inside liners are identical as is CD label. Could be a way of differentiating which pressing? Can't find any further information. I saw it priced for $11.99 sealed European import style.

The version with the "Ger Ur Freak On" vocal is definitely a boot.

Mine is official... It was released on LAZY RECORDINGS.. The label owned by The Primatives...

It's a great record! Sounds very poppy... Sonic Flower Love....Jangly guitars... The vocals are layered and sung together but there's not too much distortion. Todd

I really really love "Never Say Goodbye". The rest of Ecstacy & Wine sounds like a more Byrds-y Jesus & Mary Chain (not a bad thing at all). You should definitely pick it up.

it is not out of print, it has been reissued. now if they would only reissue the primitives lazy sessions so i can ditch my 10 year old cassette.

the new rocketship song 'pretty sara' sounds like it should have been on ecstasy and wine.

keith, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Where's that Rocketship song from?

I still contend that the recent reissue is dodgy in one way or another. But hey if it means I'm not wearing out my vinyl copy then I can hardly complain. Now if they'd just reissue "The New Record By..."

electric sound of jim, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it is on the cookbook cd from eenie meenie records, the song is not the best rocketship song ever, by any stretch, but it is miles better than all that nonsense on garden of delight.

keith, Thursday, 6 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and i didn't see that you had already mentioned the reissue, sorry:).

MBV = uergh.

The Britpopper in you would actually think differently about this era of the band, actually. ;-)
