Rhinestone cowboy by Glenn Campbell at a very odd Turkish pub in Stoke Newington.

"Thieves" by Ministry. Okay, I'm lying, I've never seen a drag routine live outside of "Chicago", but wouldn't that be EXCELLENT? Or even better, "P.R.E.S.S." or "Start The Riot!"

The Dueling Bankheads doing "Surfin' Bird" to a bunch of perplexed circuit queens.

Or that queen doing Patti Labelle after the end credits of Paris Is Burning.

either The Fantastic Bitches UK or (Brian's fave) Nigel Peppercock... transsexual electro/rock of the highest order.

"Separate Lives" by whoever the hell it was that did that song. The reigning drag king & queen of underage Portland were doing their final number before passing the torch to the next year's king and queen, and for the first time since the sixth grade I thought "Lip synching is as legitimate a form of performance as any other." I thought then that the song sucked, but their immersion in it was so total that it took on gallons of meaning, dignity, power, etc etc etc

Christ it was beautiful

i've never seen drag set to anything interesting. its always just y'know lady marmalade or its raining men. i think the drag queens in this town should get some imagination.

The best drag king performance I saw was "honeymoon is over" by 'Tex Perkins, here performed by "perkins paste", complete with pop button shirt ripping and beer spilled down his fake hairy chest.

The Big Mess Orchestra – Philly based group that used to do semi- regular cabarets featuring big band renditions of songs like “More than a Feeling”, swing opera, songs performed on rollerskates and other camp vaudeville shtick, tho with a very high musical standard (well, most of the time)

One such performance involved a fifties style housewife having a sobbing fit while singing “Manic Depression” while accompanied by bagpipes.

Haven't seen many, but the funniest drag act I'd seen was set to "I Should Be So Lucky" by the venerable Kylie. Prettiest lad, with the bouncy golden curls, leggings and 80s togs she was guilty of.

This is a little OT, but the first time a friend ever took me to a go-go bar (something I lost interest in quickly, by the way, since I don't enjoy being teased), there was a strobe light going and "2000 Light Years From Home" was playing, while a scantily clad woman swung around a pole. It seemed like a very appropriate song for my descent into a den of iniquity of that sort.
