Sitting here happier than a 4-year-old at Christmas as it repeats and repeats and repeats in my headphones.

First Slade song I ever heard, and about their only hit in America, I think.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 January 2009 23:54 (sixteen years ago)
Probably their only Canadian hit, too - I remember it being pretty popular when I was in elementary school.

Anyway, I'm all about the sugar rush today, musically speaking, and this thing is helping me get through the first truly busy post-holiday workdayin the best way possible.

Brilliant.

darn it... sorry about that.

No worries, the link still works! Maybe the mods can clean it up?

People just need to remember! Never post the embed code from YouTube -- a straight URL cut/paste is enough for embedding here.

"Cum On Feel the Noize" didn't chart for them?
― Sundar, Saturday, 10 January 2009 00:50 (sixteen years ago)
Huh, only went to #98 US, it seems.
― Sundar, Saturday, 10 January 2009 00:51 (sixteen years ago)
The Quiet Riot remake was huge, though.
― Tantrum The Cat, Saturday, 10 January 2009 00:52 (sixteen years ago)
Well duh.
― Sundar, Saturday, 10 January 2009 00:53 (sixteen years ago)
"run runaway" was part of that odd run of celtic-reelish '80s hits -- "in a big country," "c'mon eileen," seems like there were one or two more. i love them all...
― tipsy mothra, Saturday, 10 January 2009 01:09 (sixteen years ago)
Those are all awesome songs indeed.
― Tantrum The Cat, Saturday, 10 January 2009 01:13 (sixteen years ago)
I just watched that crap 100 best metal songs (h8 vh1), and it had the story of quiet riot's version of cum on. they admitted on camera that they didn't even like slade, and the label made them do it. it's stories like that that make me want to shoot people. cum on slade version is the ultimate fist-pumping glamarama party jam, though.
― okamax, Saturday, 10 January 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)
god I love this song
― J0hn D., Saturday, 10 January 2009 02:10 (sixteen years ago)
Tipsy mothra OTM on how I remember hearing them, that big rollicking sound on the radio. "My Oh My" was the follow up, didn't do as well.
― Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 January 2009 02:14 (sixteen years ago)
Cool song. Their three mid 80s albums were terribly underrated. Surely, their prime was in the 70s, but they released a great three-album sequence consisting of "The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome", "Rogues Gallery" and "You Boyz Make Big Noize". The latter two were largely ignored though. Which was a shame.

Goodbye t;Jane is great too

Just for fun, this is pop-Celtic Canuckistan combo Great Big Sea's version:

I had never heard this song, but upon hearing it now, I feel like my life was emptier for it.
― Shmutchered at Shmirth (J3ff T.), Saturday, 10 January 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)
Emptier for having heard it? Tough crowd...
― Tantrum The Cat, Sunday, 11 January 2009 01:35 (sixteen years ago)
Ha! Ned this was my (castle?) gateway to Slade too. A 7th (or was it 8th?) grade favorite. Andrew WK reminded me so much of Slade, this period especially...
― jaybabcock, Sunday, 11 January 2009 02:18 (sixteen years ago)
Emptier for not having heard it!
― Shmutchered at Shmirth (J3ff T.), Sunday, 11 January 2009 02:42 (sixteen years ago)
Always liked it a lot better than "My Oh My".
― Geir Hongro, Sunday, 11 January 2009 03:45 (sixteen years ago)
For all the Beatles talk, Oasis always reminded me more of Slade (and Ziggy Stardust, of course).
― If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Sunday, 11 January 2009 03:48 (sixteen years ago)
Very OTM -- Oasis was always much more in the Faces/Slade vein of bands who grew up with the Beatles but were their own rough edged glam band instead. (And of course Oasis covered "Cum On Feel the Noize.")
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 11 January 2009 04:19 (sixteen years ago)
Would be curious to see some opinions on the cover version, as I don't think it was released outside Canada.
― Tantrum The Cat, Sunday, 11 January 2009 15:18 (sixteen years ago)
Not untrue, but there's a dose of The Beatles in Slade at their best too. Just listen to some of the harmonies in "Merry Xmas Everybody" - particularly the chords in the middle-eight and the vocal harmonies in "It's only just begun" line at the end of the chorus.
