I'm relatively new to Waits and am still finding my way round this album, so this will be interesting for me.

I think Clap Hands is my favourite so far. Such a sinister atmosphere.

tough to beat hang down your head

Gorgeous Preppy (G00blar), Saturday, 10 January 2009 15:11 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, that's another early standout for me.

Tango Till They're Sore

wilter, Saturday, 10 January 2009 15:17 (sixteen years ago)

Hang Down Your Head

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 10 January 2009 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

gah, i voted for 'time' because it was the first i thought of & it's really beautiful, and then i remembered about 'clap hands'

lex pretend, Saturday, 10 January 2009 17:41 (sixteen years ago)

2/3rds of these are solid gold and i could have voted for any one of them. i went for Gun Street Girl.

I went with Tango Til They're Sore last time.

Time. With Tango and Blind Love close behind.

Dr X O'Skeleton, Saturday, 10 January 2009 19:26 (sixteen years ago)

Funny, that thread didn't come up on my search. Apologies everyone!

his best album. the only Tom Waits album I still wanna listen to, honestly

Courtney Love's Jew Loan Officer (Shakey Mo Collier), Saturday, 17 January 2009 00:03 (sixteen years ago)

Really? It's a good album, but I don't really see what differentiates it much from his other good albums.

Anywhere I Lay My Head

wkiwpedia (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 17 January 2009 00:06 (sixteen years ago)

I think this album is so well paced since the best songs are are the first and last. Followed by the Hang Down Your Head/Time/Rain Dogs chunk in the middle.

wkiwpedia (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 17 January 2009 00:07 (sixteen years ago)

I like gun street girl

cool app (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Saturday, 17 January 2009 00:09 (sixteen years ago)

I really only like the Franks Wild Years trilogy and this one seems to have a stronger set of songs and performances than the other two, that's all.

Courtney Love's Jew Loan Officer (Shakey Mo Collier), Saturday, 17 January 2009 00:09 (sixteen years ago)

Its a great album. Will vote Clap Hands because its one of those hazy, passive-agressive songs in which I love to imagine myself living in.

Moka, Saturday, 17 January 2009 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

Is "Jockey Full of Bourbon" the too-obvious choice? Associations with "Down by Law" give me warm associations.

Shannon Whirry & the Bad Brains, Saturday, 17 January 2009 01:14 (sixteen years ago)

great record with much more variety and depth than you're likely to find elsewhere in the waits canon. though the unified, conceptual feel of near-masterpieces such as 'small change' and 'bone machine' is wonderful too.

i don't have a favourite track on this album, but i really love a whole bunch of them. some really outstanding mellow numbers which are almost plaintive in their approach ('blind love', 'downtown train', 'time') alongside the larger-than-life theatrical fare.

i wish i could remember the day i went from hating him to loving him as much as i do

About the same day you realized you were an alcoholic.

Moka, Saturday, 17 January 2009 09:28 (sixteen years ago)

I've got a lot of love for 9th and Hennepin. It's my favourite spoken word track of his. Maybe. With the exception of What's He Building perhaps...
