Gruff with angelic stripes or angelic with gruff stripes? I feel like there were more big hit singles in this "genre" in 2001/2002 but I can't remember them now. They're both pretty good though!

I'M REAL REMIX!!!
though the murder inc 'ain't it funny' rmx rules over both.

"I bring pain to fake thugs and pretty women one and the same!"
this is one of the wrongest lines ever, why do I love him so?
― Tim F, Monday, 12 January 2009 19:58 (seventeen years ago)
such a classic......
― WE FUCK YOU (The Brainwasher), Monday, 12 January 2009 21:06 (seventeen years ago)

― and what, Monday, 12 January 2009 21:08 (seventeen years ago)
always thought this beat was the shit -- excuse 'the world's most talented record label' & ashanti awkwardly saying "its murda!" into the phone @ the beginning tho. its kinda got a amateur 'my life'-era mary j vibe
― xhuxk d (deej), Monday, 12 January 2009 21:35 (seventeen years ago)
also i dig 'put it on me' but obv most of the shit they did in this formula got old real quick & the corniness was outta control circa 'mesmerize'
― xhuxk d (deej), Monday, 12 January 2009 21:36 (seventeen years ago)
Oh man, forgot "Put It On Me!"
― Doctor Casino, Monday, 12 January 2009 21:37 (seventeen years ago)
'livin it up' was also a good interpolation of stevie -- surprised no one did it sooner
― xhuxk d (deej), Monday, 12 January 2009 21:37 (seventeen years ago)
I love "Livin' It Up". If I was gonna rank this sorta stuff it would be like:
"I'm Real (Remix)" >> "Livin' It Up" >> "Put It On Me" >> "Ain't It Funny (Remix)" >> "Between Me & You" >> "Always On Time" >>>> "What's Luv" = "Thug Lovin" >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "Mesmerize".
Though "Reign" on the same Ja Rule album as "Mesmerize" is totally classic.

where is "happy"??
― xhuxk d (deej), Monday, 12 January 2009 21:55 (seventeen years ago)
lol where is nabisco to reprise his "Ja Rule is my nemesis" rant?
― ^likes black girls (HI DERE), Monday, 12 January 2009 21:56 (seventeen years ago)
Offhand I can't remember what "Happy" sounded like but I do remember liking D'n'D's remix. As a rule I was never terribly enamoured with the Chink Santana sound.
My jams from that Ashanti album were always "Voodoo" and "Rescue Me".
― Tim F, Monday, 12 January 2009 22:04 (seventeen years ago)
'happy' is the vid i posted upthread!

Ah, I am at work and not working, it will not load for me here. Will check when I get home and report back.
― Tim F, Monday, 12 January 2009 22:09 (seventeen years ago)
"I'm Real", cause you know 50% "Mary Jane" versus 0% "Mary Jane". This shit officially turned wack around "Always On Time".

waiting for tim to acknowledge im otm re: happy

You were OTM re: happy. I had forgotten how deathless that flute hook was, how undeniable the "couldn't be without you babe chorus" is...
― Tim F, Friday, 6 February 2009 13:04 (seventeen years ago)
"couldn't be without you babe" chorus, I mean.
haha sweet
― LOOK WHAT I BRING TO THE TABLA (deej), Friday, 6 February 2009 22:13 (seventeen years ago)
that flute hook always weirdly reminded me most of the keyboard hook on this:
― LOOK WHAT I BRING TO THE TABLA (deej), Friday, 6 February 2009 22:17 (seventeen years ago)
i guess that doesnt sound much like a keyboard -- its like a keyboard doing smooth-flute-sound or something
