just got back from 2 weeks in the philippines and thailand and this was the only album i listened to. apparently he went to vietnam and brought back a bunch of scratchy old records and made beats with them. all the tracks are around a minute and are so great.

and then recently got a copy of Tribute, an album he put out with Quetzal (both french producers) that is their tribute to 60s and 70s soul. all produced like donuts. short, cut off samples and that thump. so beautiful

Not bad, but for me this stuff just goes too far into straight pastiche of the 80s boogie sound. Chinoiseries (which I love) was so much fresher and original-sounding.
