Good luck USA

Timezilla vs Mechadistance (blueski), Tuesday, 13 January 2009 22:53 (seventeen years ago)

you hate the british public too?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 00:19 (seventeen years ago)

"I Want You Back"

Matos W.K., Wednesday, 14 January 2009 03:18 (seventeen years ago)

That's almost right, Matos. But the correct answer is "Grapevine."

ilx chilton (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 03:20 (seventeen years ago)

do they even sell california raisins in the u.k.?

PS: grapevine

miss precious perfect (musically), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

It means the best chord progression ever.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 03:58 (seventeen years ago)

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 05:43 (seventeen years ago)

i'll be the dork to vote Baby Love

serious sockpuppet here (PappaWheelie V), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 05:50 (seventeen years ago)

"Baby Love". Although in this case, the Top 10 bestselling US Motown singles is probably a more representative pick.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 11:14 (seventeen years ago)

representative of what?

Mark G, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 11:19 (seventeen years ago)

i've gone for "all night long", cheesy as it may be, it's still a winner on the dancefloor every time and manages to prick a little nostalgia into me each time.

the next grozart, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 11:35 (seventeen years ago)

I Want You Back (cos voting for Grapevine is boring)

Timezilla vs Mechadistance (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 11:37 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe I just haven't been paying that much attention, but I'm partly amazed that 'One Day In Yr Life' is the biggest selling Jacko single here.

Yehudi Menudo (NickB), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 11:43 (seventeen years ago)

It was his first solo number one in the UK.

Mark G, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 11:46 (seventeen years ago)

he only had one great #1 here

Timezilla vs Mechadistance (blueski), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 11:48 (seventeen years ago)

Most of his big solo hits weren't on Motown.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 11:54 (seventeen years ago)

I prefer the (albeit very different) version of Grapevine by the Slits.

the next grozart, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 12:10 (seventeen years ago)

They even sold the toys for a short while.

The boy with the Arab money (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 12:12 (seventeen years ago)

Most of his big solo hits weren't on Motown.

Ahhhh, duh yeah uh huh oops pardon me...

Yehudi Menudo (NickB), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 12:21 (seventeen years ago)

I really really really want to vote "Being With You", even though it's not the "Best Song" on the list. So I am.

"Two Ears" Laybelle (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 12:51 (seventeen years ago)

representative of what?

I was a bit too quick with that comment. I thought of stuff like "I Just Called To Say I Love You", but that single is obviously among Motown's best US sellers too. Quality and sales don't always match.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 12:51 (seventeen years ago)

the US list is even lamer:

1 I'LL MAKE LOVE TO YOU Boyz II Men (Motown, 1994)
2 END OF THE ROAD Boyz II Men (Biv 10, 1992)
3 ON BENDED KNEE Boyz II Men (Motown, 1994)
4 ENDLESS LOVE Diana Ross & Lionel Richie (Motown, 1981)
5 BACK AT ONE Brian McKnight (Motown, 1999)
6 I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE Marvin Gaye (Tamla, 1968)
7 I'LL BE THERE Jackson 5 (Motown, 1970)
8 ALL NIGHT LONG (ALL NIGHT) Lionel Richie (Motown, 1983)
9 UPSIDE DOWN Diana Ross (Motown, 1980)
10 THREE TIMES A LADY Commodores (Motown, 1978)

miss precious perfect (musically), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 16:08 (seventeen years ago)

Genuinely surprised at that list.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 16:15 (seventeen years ago)

no it's not!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 16:15 (seventeen years ago)

I'm surprised "I'll Make Love to You" sold more than "End of the Road."

Gorgeous Preppy (G00blar), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 16:16 (seventeen years ago)

Thanks Musically

Mark G, Wednesday, 14 January 2009 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

I bet the lex does. Personally I despise Boyz II Men

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 16:33 (seventeen years ago)

grapevine. again.

Calling All Creeps! (contenderizer), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 16:41 (seventeen years ago)

I can't choose between I Want You Back & Grapevine. I think. Argh. I think Jacko's yelp at the end wins.

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 16:43 (seventeen years ago)

comes down to if you like BoysIImen more than sixties/early seventies motown... are retarded or not

I Want You Back

Piotrek (Piotr), Wednesday, 14 January 2009 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

Hello was inescapable on the radio when it was out, I Just Called To Say I Love You even more so.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

did we decide if this was better than the US one?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

I Want You Back is one of my favorite vocal performances by anyone ever. there are other Marvin songs that beat it but not "Grapevine."

J0hn D., Tuesday, 20 January 2009 07:50 (seventeen years ago)

"Happy Birthday" cuz I've had it with "I Want You Back" overshadowing the infinitely superior "The Love You Save."

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 08:50 (seventeen years ago)

"All Night Long (All Night)", on account of my disproportionate emotional attachment.

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 11:36 (seventeen years ago)

0 for Commodores? I'm surprised.
