is a band worth anything if they completely suck/blow, yet feature a member who's rather hot and you just wanna get all up in them pants? I mean, hell, you can turn off the volume when they're on the TV, and put in earplugs when they're onstage, right?

His band sucks big hairy moosecock, but I'd pay money to tie him to my bed and force him to have anal congress with my eBow, phew, baby, WHOO, is it getting hot in here or have I just had an alien mindmeld with the ghost of C*lz past?

not to indulge in our base interests here, since that can bring out Those Who Lurk In Shadow, but should we discuss our Idyll (Indie) Rock Harems?
I shall make the sacrifice and go first:
1. Neko Case2. Amber from Jucifer3. Britta Phillips4. Rachel Gosling from about 19905. Cheetie Kumar from the Cherry Valence
ah, there's so many...
Tom Waits shall be hired to guard the harem and tell entertaining stories. Kathleen Brennan shall be hired and paid handsomely just to keep an eye on Tom.

While the bands are usually not prominent enough to have THAT large a stigma attached to them(yet), there's always shame to be had.

Erm, interesting sidetrack, but back to the.music of Bleach...
I agree with the tag of "dull" for the LP, which is disappointing considering their early singles and two post-LP EP's are so satisfying. I wonder what happened in the studio.
Stuff like "Wipe It Away" kicks my ass with it's Blondie-fronting-a-shoegaze-band feel. And has anyone else heard the "Hard" and "Fast" EPs? Some great martial drumming, multri-tracked vocals and a fun cover of "Relax". Put them together and it blows away the LP.
What ever became of Sally Carson?

Yeah that's right. The first EP's were so promising. Holy crap, you're gonna make me dig that ancient CD single out of my stacks! The one with the blue background and a leaf! I used to have the first record on vinyl, that was the black sleeve with little chicks on it, wasn't it?
― Bimble, Sunday, 8 July 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)
that first EP was pretty good..."Bethesda" and "Burn" (kind of a disco-goth-shoegaze slowburn of a track)...certainly boded well, too bad they lost it...they could have been a messier Curve...

two post-LP EP's
Which I remember hearing about but have never heard. MP3s, anyone?

Oh, I get all excited and think that finally ILM has decided to take on the awe-inspiring Japanese band Bleach, but hopes are crushed yet again. Ah, I see someone else had the same reaction above.
One of the biggest mysteries around here (with all the love of noise, cute girls, and the semi-obscure) is how Bleach from Japan manage to stay off the radar to the extent that they do. Have also never figured out why Aquarius records doesn't wax poetic about them. Strange.

I still have the "Snag" 12" single from 1991 filed away. I liked the tracks "Bethesda" and "Dipping" I remember. I don't think I ever heard anything else from them, so I haven't got much to say about them.

I had the Snag EP and I taped the one with Wipe It Away on it off my mate (was that before or after?). I saw them live a couple of times - supporting Ride in late 1990, and 'headlining' a tiny gig in Harlow (to a few dozen people) in early 1991. I used to wear a Bleach t-shirt with that leaf & barbed wire on it. If I remember rightly they somehow got a reputation of only being interviewed in Melody Maker because Everett True fancied the singer (which obviously didn't help them much). They were one of those 90/91 groups who I'd lost interest in by 92 when their album came out.

ET, IIRC, reviewed the album very negatively.
― Ned Raggett, Sunday, 8 July 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)
That would be Everett True, rather than the Extra Terrestrial, I assume.
― Nasty, Brutish & Short, Sunday, 8 July 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)
Rather.
Anyway, Mr. Odd, I must thank you indeed -- together they're far superior to the actual album! Lots of sudden and surprising moments (really like the lead guitar figure on "Fragment," pre-post-punk epic rock revivalism, as it were).

OTM. I couldn't tell if it was the quality of the music itself on the album that was the problem or if I'd just moved on. There were other bands like that, too. I felt that way about the first Curve album as well.

I'm listening to the Snag EP now, the one with the leaf on it. I'd had it here on my table waiting to be played for a whole month since this thread was revived. It is actually much, much better than I remembered. I'm surprised.
― Bimble, Monday, 13 August 2007 06:09 (eighteen years ago)
They were like the one shoegazing band I didn't get to see in England in 1991, it was quite sad. I remember that. I remember walking through the doors of the Arndale Center in Manchester while playing this EP in my ears on my walkman.
― Bimble, Monday, 13 August 2007 06:16 (eighteen years ago)
I interviewed them for the 90's incarnation of CREEM, and they were lovely. I still like a few tracks off that debut.
