Zeno, Monday, 19 January 2009 00:42 (seventeen years ago)

I'm giving Clinic an underdog vote here.

Dig all three, though.

i'm really digging hot shots II! you guys were right about it all along. i think i played it once when it came out. might have to do with my awesome klipschs. so big and expansive and all that. feel a little dumb cranking them in a used record store....reminds me of jack black.

anyway, i totally get it now. this album. i remember matos and jess loved it? or maybe just one of them. and i couldn't really hear what they heard in it.

Gholdfish Killah (Turrican), Tuesday, 19 December 2017 19:25 (eight years ago)

Beta band fucking rule, are you kidding me??????

brimstead, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 19:28 (eight years ago)

Also beta band don't wear masks they wear spacesuits and robes

brimstead, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 19:29 (eight years ago)

No surprises what I would have voted for.

Gholdfish Killah (Turrican), Tuesday, 19 December 2017 19:29 (eight years ago)

Hot Shots kind of sucks actually
. It's all about the EPs and the s/t

brimstead, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 19:30 (eight years ago)

see, that's what i thought. you should listen to hot shots again.

scott seward, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 19:38 (eight years ago)

All their stuff holds up, even the last album

Cardi Acs (imago), Tuesday, 19 December 2017 19:46 (eight years ago)

afriendlypioneer, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 19:47 (eight years ago)

Beta Band >>> Clinic >>>>>>> excrement > Animal Collective >>>>>>> Turrican

FTFY

Frederik B, Tuesday, 19 December 2017 22:30 (eight years ago)

I disagree. Turrican is a great game.

Gholdfish Killah (Turrican), Tuesday, 19 December 2017 22:35 (eight years ago)

Glad you agree on the placement of everything else, though :)

Gholdfish Killah (Turrican), Tuesday, 19 December 2017 22:36 (eight years ago)

Used to love AC but now find them deeply irritating like everyone else I suppose.

yesca, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 13:17 (eight years ago)

I feel like AC were an adolescent phase for everyone, including AC.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 20 December 2017 13:53 (eight years ago)

I like at least some of every Beta Band release.

Simon H., Wednesday, 20 December 2017 14:05 (eight years ago)

Seems like I should love Beta Band, but they've never done anything for me. Clinic is v. underrated.

afriendlypioneer, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 14:25 (eight years ago)

it's the debate that's tearing up 2017!

all this youthless booty (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 20 December 2017 14:34 (eight years ago)

I'd like Clinic and Beta Band to be more relevant than AC in 2018. Will it happen?

afriendlypioneer, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 14:55 (eight years ago)

let's hope so!!

i can't stress enough how important a proper sound system is when it comes to listening to hot shots. it's so big. i did not have this kind of system when i bought it new. it just expands outward in such a cool way when played loud on good speakers. their cinematic british pastoral thing is rivaled only by my beloved Doves. i still listen to doves, beta band, and clinic. i don't have the EP collection anymore though. will have to find a cheap copy. not having listened to hot shots much at all kinda makes it a new album for me. they were really onto something.

the closest i would ever get to listening to an animal collective album would probably be listening to M83 or something. in theory, a pastoral ed banger-esque shoegaze pop is not anathema to me. AC were almost instantly something i ran from.

scott seward, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:05 (eight years ago)

Tainted Doves

Thomas NAGL (Neil S), Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:07 (eight years ago)

i would love to hear an indie rock album in 2018 that had bass as big as hot shots has. would love to see more geeks influenced by dub in 2018.

scott seward, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:10 (eight years ago)

Lots of sarcasm in this thread. V. disappointing.

afriendlypioneer, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:15 (eight years ago)

"All their stuff holds up, even the last album"

i totally forgot about this album. did i ever hear it? i might have to splurge on a 99 cent CD online.

scott seward, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:19 (eight years ago)

Are any of Steve Mason's albums worth checking out? I heard the last one and it was kind of lame imo.

afriendlypioneer, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:26 (eight years ago)

Stop saying AC, I'm thinking of a different band.

Mark G, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:31 (eight years ago)

i would buy an Aliens CD if i saw one for 5 bucks or less. they were the most beta-esque of post-beta things, right?

scott seward, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:35 (eight years ago)

i really like boys outside, but it is very subdued in a slightly corny adult contemporary (another AC) way. could see why people would call it lame, tbh.

mizzell, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:37 (eight years ago)

Anal Cunt has like 3 fans and they all say the same thing

flappy bird, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:46 (eight years ago)

I seem to remember liking the King Biscuit Time album

Simon H., Wednesday, 20 December 2017 15:47 (eight years ago)

Aliens were great live, the album was not

brimstead, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 16:05 (eight years ago)

would love to see more geeks influenced by dub in 2018.

trust me, you probably don't

brimstead, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 16:05 (eight years ago)

These days I would vote for clinic, think internal wrangler holds up pretty well, especially distortions. Beta band are great but they are boring live

In a slipshod style (Ross), Wednesday, 20 December 2017 16:26 (eight years ago)

ROSS

brimstead, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 16:36 (eight years ago)

YOU ARE CRAZY

brimstead, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 16:36 (eight years ago)

re bb live

brimstead, Wednesday, 20 December 2017 16:36 (eight years ago)

Perhaps my memory is bungled regarding that. They opened for radiohead and it just seemed lacklustre. (Probably the wrong setting for them)

In a slipshod style (Ross), Wednesday, 20 December 2017 16:39 (eight years ago)

Last Clinic album was kind of dubby. Well, the OPN remix. Good stuff.
