I've been listening to a couple of compilations of Italian easy listening from the 70s. And it's fantastic!

Mina Altro, Fred Bongusto, Kim Ascari ... who are their equivalents in the anglo-saxon world?

Is Italian pop still this good?

Italian pop is in a sorry sorry state. www.italianrap.com is the best place to go to find out what's interesting in Italian music. Hip-hop is the only place where any action is to be found nowadays. As you probably know, the Italian media is hopelessly bland, and Italian music TV consists of Europop, derivative trance acts such as Mauro Picotto, and sixties hang-ons such as the truly awful Adriano Celentano.

It's a shame really, as Italy was, in the 50s and 60s at least, home of some truly great great pop. Rita Pavone and L'il Tony spring to mind. But nowadays... every guitar band sounds like Del Amitri.
