TWEET. oops.

yungblut, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 00:48 (seventeen years ago)

It's either "Oops (Oh My)" or "Gossip Folks". I actually prefer Bubba's "Nowhere" to JT's "Cry Me A River", though both are great.

Tim F, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 03:09 (seventeen years ago)

^^pretty much exactly that. especially the version of 'nowhere' which segues into 'cry me a river'! i like 'call me' better than 'oops (oh my)' but again, concerning production, the latter is more notable.

'make me a song' is so odd. "can you make me a song that you and missy wrote, missy wrote, can you make me a song like 'rock the boat', 'rock the boat'" <= except timbo and missy had nothing to do w/ 'rock the boat'. meta fail! still a great song.

SLEEPER: 'the jump off'

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 10:23 (seventeen years ago)

i always thought "i'm really hot" was an underrated missy jam but how can it not be "oh my"

jordy (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 10:30 (seventeen years ago)

"I'm Really Hot" is like the only U&K track on This Is Not A Test.

Tim F, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 10:31 (seventeen years ago)

it's like timbaland doing swizz beatz of which i approve

jordy (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 10:32 (seventeen years ago)

"I'm Really Hot" is like the only U&K track on This Is Not A Test.

you think so? i'm sure i remember you dissing it at the time! 'let me fix my weave' is the only TINAT track i really jam, though i don't mind 'spelling bee' or 'pass that dutch' either.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 10:33 (seventeen years ago)

'cry me a river' is the most IMPT timba production here given that he's rewritten it shamelessly at least 7 times since

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 10:35 (seventeen years ago)

I hope "Oops (Oh My)" wins--I voted for it.

Matos W.K., Tuesday, 20 January 2009 10:36 (seventeen years ago)

actually relistening to 'i'm really hot', the beat is pretty great, but missy is so subpar on it

lex pretend, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 10:40 (seventeen years ago)

Should have given us a year to decide.

"actually relistening to 'i'm really hot', the beat is pretty great, but missy is so subpar on it"

Actually this is right. Missy IS great on "Let Me Fix My Weave" but I couldn't take that album seriously by that point. I've never liked "Pass That Dutch" particularly.

ysi?

Ioannis, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 13:17 (seventeen years ago)

'Pass That Dutch' I still love precisely because it's a faster, bassier rehash of 'Work It'

Bondzilla vs Mechaholmes (blueski), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 13:25 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for "Feel The Girl" but all the Ms. Jade singles were jams.

System, Monday, 26 January 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

This is where polls become kind of pointless in the face of a body of unassailable work. Jesus CHRIST were these all in such a short period of time? Really hard for me to separate Timb's work as producer from the songs themselves - like "Pass That Dutch," not my favorite Missy song but do I hold that against the beat? Or "Deliverance," which was really hyped at the time and I still think sounds great but goes nowhere.

"Oops" and "Work It" were the real revelation here tho.

1st place tie: "cry me a river" vs "work it"
3rd "the jump-off"
4th "gossip folks"
5th "dirt off your shoulder"

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 26 January 2009 03:46 (seventeen years ago)

"Are We Cuttin'" is underrated. Pastor Troy had the misfortune of being in the last wave of southern rappers who'd get thrown in the studio with guys like Timbaland instead of crossing over with the kinds of records they were already good at making, but that's still a dope beat.

some dude, Monday, 26 January 2009 03:49 (seventeen years ago)

"call me" one of tim's best songs, totally underrated IMHO. tweet has such a fantastic voice, that whole album is good.

dirt off your s. is so generic

twitty milk (deej), Monday, 26 January 2009 10:04 (seventeen years ago)

yeah it is but the synth riff is still dope

jordy (J0rdan S.), Monday, 26 January 2009 10:05 (seventeen years ago)

are we cuttin is ass

mad loli vamp bone (cankles), Monday, 26 January 2009 10:16 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" is at least top 100 synth riffs all time. Nothing generic about it.

The Reverend (rev), Monday, 26 January 2009 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

It has TWO great synth riffs! The fwehfwehfweefwafwaowfwafwaow one AND the one that creeps in halfway through the verses.

i barely fuckin remember 'shade sheist'. was he just some beat club dude?? i vaguely remember the kinda loopy bassline on it but certainly dont remember him

twitty milk (deej), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 01:16 (seventeen years ago)

nah Shade Sheist was a west coast cat, had a couple much better singles w/ Nate Dogg before and after "Money Owners"

some dude, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 01:25 (seventeen years ago)

Damn, I had "Where I Wanna Be" stuck in my head the other day and couldn't figure out what it was for the life of me.

The Reverend (rev), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 01:38 (seventeen years ago)

he definitely sounds west coast but i dont remember him ... o well

It has TWO great synth riffs! The fwehfwehfweefwafwaowfwafwaow one AND the one that creeps in halfway through the verses.

Does the latter even qualify as a "riff"? Seems like he just held down one key at a time on some Korg or other. Not knocking that method but I've never found anything really interesting about "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" so I guess I'm biased.

"Deliverance" and "Work It" badly underrated here, compared to, I dunno, these threads:

Missy Elliot: "Work It"
the new bubba sparxxx album is...
