All of Unplugged, I was going to say.

bendy, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 15:37 (seventeen years ago)

"more well-known" might be a bit debatable there.

The stripped down demo version of Quicksand by David Bowie is better than the album version.

Some of Nirvana unplugged is not as good as the 'proper' versions...

But let's not be picky.

Unless yr picking the 'better thans'

The Old Laughing Lady - Neil Young (Unplugged)

Deep Dark Truthful Mirror - Elvis Costello

Just Like A Woman - Bob Dylan (Before The Flood)
I'll take the version from Concert for Bangla Desh myself.
And Julieta Venegas' "Algo Esta Cambiando" from MTV Unplugged may be my favorite single track from 2007, so that.

Jazzbo, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 15:57 (seventeen years ago)

I mean 2008, natch.

Sugababes - Push the Button

Skulls - Eevan Dando

Calling All Creeps! (contenderizer), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

how can this be when much of the appeal of 'push the button' lies in the playfully sexy music and esp. beat? xp

or something, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 16:22 (seventeen years ago)

you'd really be surprised!

Gukbe, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

Mark Kozelek to thread!

What this guy can do with just his guitar and voice amazes me- check out his acoustic version of Katy Song on Youtube, lots of the Old Ramon stuff, version of Bubble on Youtube, 10 inch version of Duk Koo Kim, etc.

I haven't heard his AC/DC covers yet.

ColinO, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

The Nights LP is fantastic!

ColinO, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

Also dad a otm- I can't even listen to Blonde on Blonde's "Johanna" anymore.

ColinO, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 18:11 (seventeen years ago)

Oh yeah- Robyn Hitchcock too! He can really pull off his stuff with just an acoustic based on the time I saw him live.

ColinO, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

Overkill by Men At Work

Colin Hay's solo acoustic version (on, I think, Man at Work) is really great.

thirdalternative, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 18:17 (seventeen years ago)

Also: King Only by the Twilight Singers

Greg Dulli does a beautious version of it acoustic on new "Live at Triple Door" album

thirdalternative, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 18:18 (seventeen years ago)

Bizarre Love Triangle (Frente's version) is a lot more beautiful than the New Order original, though I love both.

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

Pete Townshend's solo version of "Drowned" from the first Secret Policeman's Ball, for his wild, about-to-derail rhythm guitaring.

Maps and Legends - REM

Also "So. Central Rain," unfortunately spoiled by the wild swings in volume level and way too loud audience.

Hideous Lump, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 04:28 (seventeen years ago)

"Born in the U.S.A." - Bruce Springsteen (Bridge Benefit '86)
"Seeds" - Bruce Springsteen (same)

"Don't Go" - Hothouse Flowers (12"?)

Johnny Cash - Hurt

redmond, Thursday, 22 January 2009 15:34 (seventeen years ago)

Alphaville's "Forever Young" has a very pretty acoustic version.

"Overkill," yes absolutely.

There are several P. Simon demos that would be perfectly fine as releases in their own right; "Born at the Right Time" is another.

I know that not ALL the unplugged Nirvana is better (despite having believed that at times past) but I'd certainly say it of "All Apologies" and probably "About a Girl" also. Not "Come as You Are," though. I now acknowledge that the plugged version
is superior.

Ye Mad Puffin, Thursday, 22 January 2009 15:47 (seventeen years ago)

O HAI just remembered an acoustic demo of "Mystery Dance" that I like almost as much as the full-band version...

eaws version is better but i still think both are fairly ropey

I'm quite fond of the Arab Strap's acoustic version of "The Shy Retirer."
