I like The Eagles? WTF?

I never, ever, thought I'd listen to The Eagles by choice.

But then I discovered that the wonderful, spooky theme tune to the original Hitch-hiker's Guide To The Galaxy radio show is "Journey of the Sorcerer" by them. So I downloaded it, and it's as atmospheric and fantastic as I remember.

So did they do more stuff like this? Should I be checking out their psychadelic space-rock period? Or am I better leaving it there?

What other bands did you discover unexpectedly produced extraordinary pieces of music?

Goldfrapp - I bought the album on the strength of the electronic soundtrack to some collage-type film thing on Channel 4. I don't think it's ever been released

I think "Journey ..." was a fantastic one-off, phil (altho' as stated elsewhere, personally I like some other Eagles songs). The credit must largely go to the writer, Bernie Leadon, but as far as I know he didn't pursue a space-rock path either after quitting The Eagles, more's the pity.

Bought 71-75 greatest hits, went from liking it to hating it in record time, but after years have passed will acknowledge that "Peaceful Easy Feeling" is an absolute classic.

"I like the way sparkling earrings lay..."
