imho that book really lets down the 40k franchise by focusing on inquisitors instead of space marines

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 22 January 2009 21:44 (seventeen years ago)

before we decide which is better we need to list their similarities

1) both have beards

2) both are fat

3) both keep making their shit slower, weirder and more echo-y

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 22 January 2009 22:31 (seventeen years ago)

the use of echo in idjut boys edits & remixes is really annoying imo

but, i voted for them anyway.

"3) both keep making their shit slower, weirder and more echo-y

― moonship journey to baja"

i'm not sure that's really the case with theo. how do "chemistry" and "love triumphant" fit in with that? or really anything off the last album which features some of his fastest tracks? he gets the obvious vote me.

maybe i should have said that both are known for making shit that is slow, weird, echoey and heavy

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 28 January 2009 01:26 (seventeen years ago)

either which way, it is interesting to compare them as to me, the idjut boys are one of the examples of an artist whom i should like on paper, but when it comes to their music i am always disappointed. i don't own a single record by them to the best of my knowledge, and there are none on my wants list. harvey is like that too for me, there's just something missing from the equation....

pipecock, Wednesday, 28 January 2009 01:42 (seventeen years ago)

I agree with the comment about the Idjuts overuse of echo in some of their tracks but they've done some lovely stuff, namely 'Jazz Fook' and their remix of Plus ('Triple Journey').

sam500, Wednesday, 28 January 2009 01:54 (seventeen years ago)

i wouldn't say they've overused echo, but it's certainly a big part of their sound and they've certainly done their share to popularize the idea of "dubby disco"

pipecock if you don't even like the idjut boys to begin with then you probably don't have much to add to this thread. thanks for letting me know how many records of theirs aren't in your collection and how many aren't on your wantlist, it really makes your unique point of view that much more vivid and interesting.

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 28 January 2009 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

and to think i tried to not be a dick in my post. boy that sure was a waste of time. fuck you.

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 28 January 2009 02:08 (seventeen years ago)

here's to trying!

ambassador of france (jergins), Wednesday, 28 January 2009 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

idddddjutssssss for me, the thick echo-y grooves are much more to my taste. what's that one of theirs that samples the 'spank' bassline? awesome.

resident advice whore (haitch), Wednesday, 28 January 2009 02:34 (seventeen years ago)

also their bohannon edit off that pastrami man 12" is pretty epic, would put on a par with any of the ugly edits.

resident advice whore (haitch), Wednesday, 28 January 2009 02:46 (seventeen years ago)

I guess my trouble with idjuts is that they seem pretty inconsistent and also that I remember them mostly from the 90s when they were tediously lumped in with Xpress 2 and Ashley Beedle who I always found lacklustre. Lots of people with good taste rate them so I'd love to see a list of must-hears but for now it has to be Theo.

Glasgow Underground - Stella Sunday (Idjut Boys Sarbeni Remix) (10:36)

^^^^ i played that remix over and over. def. the tune that made me love the idjuts. also the U-Star Daze/More Or Less mix & compilation got heavy rotation when they came out. (pretty sure i had the More or Less thing first but somehow i've ended up with both)

t/s: was expecting vs had expected

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 29 January 2009 00:42 (seventeen years ago)

well now just for shits & giggles my buddy and i got together and decided to throw down the most ridiculous idjuts / parrish derivative mix we could. but we don't have any effects boxes so we couldn't really do any echo or anything like that so today it seems sorta lacking, but there's lots of obnoxious leaning on the crossover and lots of cheap knob gags.

should i post it? i don't want to post it to the "djs post your mixes" thread since i'm not a DJ and it's full of trainwrecks and obnoxiously loud levels.

i was thinking of starting a "post a fake idjut boys / theo parrish style mixtape" ... what say you

moonship journey to baja, Friday, 30 January 2009 02:49 (seventeen years ago)

pretty sure this is better than both of these dudes

eman, Friday, 30 January 2009 02:55 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/330766-01.htm

not sure if id recommend it, but its definitely different from fistful of ferrets.

, Friday, 6 March 2009 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

the ferrets mix def. has that annoying use of echo problem mentioned upthread

eman, Friday, 6 March 2009 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

Droid was too intense for me (think there's a Droid 2 now also)

recommended listening I'd say Phantom Slasher edits and their remix of the Emperor Machine (Front Man - Idjuts Girthius Maximus Mix) <-- pretty echoey though. major echo.

dmr, Friday, 6 March 2009 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

i like this one a lot, hellllllla echo but sounds great:

what is recommended listening for idjut boys keeping in mind that i've only heard the fistful of ferrets mix and didn't like it

phil collins edit, that's pretty much the best thing they have done but they also have an edit of a nick chacona track "band practice" i like... i do love the phantom slasher edits though, nicoteen in particular

tropical beards of paradise (san frandisco), Monday, 9 March 2009 22:51 (seventeen years ago)

it'd be nice if there existed a decent rip of that phil collins edit, all i can find is a truly piss-poor quality mp3. and these things seldom bother me

all-seeing eye of horus (psychgawsple), Monday, 9 March 2009 23:49 (seventeen years ago)

Dirty Soundsystem posted a pretty decent quality VBR mp3 a few days ago:
http://www.alainfinkielkrautrock.com/2009/03/la-fete.html

It's ripped from vinyl so it's not perfect, but it's definitely listenable.
