yeti

tago mago is great but not can's consensus album winner like yeti is to AD2

Ashee Bolanalli (Mackro Mackro), Monday, 26 January 2009 23:27 (seventeen years ago)

Tago Mago. Consensus consmensus it's just a better record.

Alex in SF, Monday, 26 January 2009 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

i think the people on ILX across the board prefer can to ADII, so i'm gonna bet on tago mago taking this one. it might be close, but then again maybe not.

I don't understand these pictures at all. Or what they have to do with Mods vs. Rockers.

Alex in SF, Monday, 26 January 2009 23:53 (seventeen years ago)

maybe you are slow. it couldn't be more obvious. the nerds represent the mods and fred "the ogre" palowakski - as well as booger, though ostensibly booger is a nerd - represents the rockers. the nerds were devo fans. booger was a prototype for all future crusty indie record store yeti fans. and he was a nerd too. but the ogre wasn't a nerd. he was an alpha beta.

scott seward, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 00:07 (seventeen years ago)

eat a pi for tago mago.

ian, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

Tago Mago.

ilxor, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 00:34 (seventeen years ago)

Guess I should hear Yeti before I decide. Where might this be done?

Dear Tacos, how are you? I am fine. The weather is nice. I miss yo (Oilyrags), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

tago mago. ridiculous it's almost 40 years old. and still not on starbucks playlist!!

Dominique, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 01:57 (seventeen years ago)

Yeti is better than the band could have hoped it would be. Tago Mago is disappointing every time I listen to it. Just not their best work IMO.

Nate Carson, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 02:09 (seventeen years ago)

Yeti, always.

Tago Mago, by a country mile

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

i keep reading this as 'yeti vs. yo la tengo'

There's not much to argue in this thread. You're either a Yeti person or a Tago Mago person. I don't think there are too many people struggling with this choice.

However, if this thread encourages Can fans to check out early Amon Duul II if they already haven't so, that's awesome.

Ashee Bolanalli (Mackro Mackro), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

If Can fans haven't checked out other krautrockers then I am disappointed in those Can fans.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

I like Tago Mago and Yeti, I just happen to like Tago Mago a lot more

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:13 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I've warmed to Yeti after having played it twice.

Still, TagMag,.

Mark G, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

No Geir on this thread?

Mark G, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

Actually I can listen to all of Yeti but I can't be arsed listening to all of Tago Mago, but I still prefer Tago Mago

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

Actually, TM is one of those albums that define wether or not you are a 'track skipper'..

.. Do you skip "Augm" onece in a while, or never do?

(I never have, although I have sometimes "run out of time" for the last couple tracks)

More likely to skip Peking O, tbh

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:21 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think there are any Can albums where I don't skip at least one track - which is odd, given that they're one of my favourite bands - Monster Movie excepted.

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:24 (seventeen years ago)

Second half of Yeti vs. Second Half of Tago Mago?

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

(Tago Mago wins it, imo)

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:37 (seventeen years ago)

Yeti wins that one

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

It's the first half of Yeti I don't like so much!

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

What?! Archangel's Thunderbird? Eye Shaking King? Soap Shop Rock?
Those are the songs that make the album. The meandering jamming of the second lp bores me.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

Each to his own!

Vicious Cop Kills Gentle Fool (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:56 (seventeen years ago)

Of course! I'm just providing some context to my vote. I thought this was a battle thread.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

There's only one track in the second half of Yeti that relatively meanders. The other improvs are great. They are essentially two different albums concatenated into one, admittedly.

Ashee Bolanalli (Mackro Mackro), Tuesday, 27 January 2009 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

i really really wish Amon Duul II had a song called "Gimme Head 'Til I'm Dead"...

seppuku toothbrush (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 28 January 2009 01:22 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Friday, 30 January 2009 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

1) I prefer Phallus Dei to Yeti

2) TM has Hallelwah on it, which pwns just about anything.
