... What should I ask him?

Tim, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(obv. I already have some ideas but your help is desired...)

(Tom, if you still plan to have The Street special I'm happy to syndicate the interview in expanded and more insightful form)

Tim, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ask (in a tactful way heh) what he thinks of ali g

mark s, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ask if he has any plans to "break" in america (serious qn. btw)

jess, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who are his favourite DJs?

Bah that's not a great question really. I saw him interviewed on TV somewhere and he seems a really nice bloke, very amusing, and very interesting.

Ronan, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(who are you interviewing him for tim? because i just realized that the america qn. might not really be pertinent in certain cases. [jess' first article idea for ft streets special: fake lester'n'the clash-style tour diary of first american tour.])

jess, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Beat Magazine = local music mag for whom I review singles every week like the whore that I am.

Tim, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How did living outside the UK affect his perceptions of the country upon returning?

stevo, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"was there anything good about the birmingham music scene when he was there??"

dbini, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Get some clarity on that, to paraphrase, "I don't make pop music" thing.

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, ask him if he plans on becoming famous enough in the future for me to be impressed that you're interviewing him.

Maria, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jesus some people are never happy. Flash to 2004, Mike Skinner goes global, him and Ja Rule collaborate, Tim gets second interview, hataz still hate.

Ronan, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ask him why "Turn the Page" is so shite.

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can Moby Save Pop?

J Blount, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Birmingham music scene is a good 'un...

Failing that - Presidents Of The USA: C/D?

Mr Swygart, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Serious qn: do 'geezers' really play N64s ("64s, playstations") - shurely not? Why fer - Goldeneye?

david h(owie), Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's all about the Mario Party.

Nate Patrin, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what is a geezer? why do they need excitement? should i be concerned?

Ron, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But, Ronan why cant the hataz feel the WUV? (and you gave me the vision of Ja Rule doing a cameo with The Streets, U BASTARD)

Chupa-Cabras, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ask him if he will marry Sarah.

Nicole, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

since he posits such a capsule lifestyle maybe you should ask him what interest he has in the way the LP's received and if he does whether that means he has changed as an inadvertant result. thus consequences for future music?

re n64 stop perpetrating the slur that nintendo is for kids only. nintendo sneering = first sign of a sony arriviste... therefore you suck!

Bob Zemko, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

why is he playing reading and not glastonbury ? is he planning to bring out 'we'll have a little dance shall we ?' t.shirts ? (+ if not, why not ?) why doesn't he make the ashley beadle remix of 'weak become heroes' the a side of the next single, so he can have a guaranteed number one smash hit ?

piscesboy, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Do you think it's true that Cher had some ribs removed?"

Michael Daddino, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Where are your troops and can I go count them?

Andy K, Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Bob - I currently own a Snes, N64, and a Gamecube - I am a fanboy. See my blog (right hand side) - SEE?

david h(owie), Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Note also Bob [sorry Tim, last post, not hijack] that the two best Gamecube games thus far [THUS FAR] are most definitely for kids [SSBM & SMB]).

david h(owie), Saturday, 8 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What does he think of the bootlegs that use his music?

Birmingham, straight back down or will they stay up? That's a footie question btw Tim.

Billy Dods, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I interviewed him a few weeks ago. He was initialy amazed that his music has resonance outside of the UK. Seemed very self-confident, though. Must have known his record was going to be terrific whilst making it. Anyway, unlike his songs, he didn't seem to be a natural storyteller in the flesh, so have your questions well prepared. Make sure you read this and get to the bottom of it! An interesting topic may be his lack of authenticity in the UK garage scene, where such might be vital currency. And whether that's going to influence the course of The Streets. Also, I want to know which building exactly it is on the album cover, so I can make a pilgrimage someday.

JoB, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And does his perceived lack of authenticity give him more freedom to mash different styles up or will he want make a record which gives him credibility amongst his peers?

Billy Dods, Sunday, 9 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eight months pass...
I'll have to check the tape again to be certain, but I'm pretty sure that Mike took a loud leak during our phone interview today.
