Songs celebrating a country's passing from colonial rule to independence. A whole lot of them around in 60's african and caribbean music, obviously, and they're always awesome, the sheer excitement that they transmit is so infectious. And of course on another level now they're very poignant as well, because you have full knowledge of the chaos, war, etc. that so quickly replaced all that optimism in most of the countries mentioned. So here's a thread for examples of this genre, all music styles welcome. I'll start it off:
"Forward March", Derrick Morgan (proto-ska)"Independent Bahamas", Biosis Now (great funk track)"Birth Of Ghana", Lord Kitchener (british calypso)"Ghana-Guinea-Mali", E.T. Mensah (Calypso again, this time from Ghana)

a friend of mine once showed me a tune called "independence cha-cha," which was/is the official anthem of the independence of (i think) the democratic republic of congo. a pretty, little, simple, summer dancing tune. he then joked that if germany (he is german) had an independence song it would be a tribal, triumphant, murderous war anthem.
