at least this song, fire imo:

this is gonna sound weird to say but something about his nerdy 'swagger' in this thread makes me think of tall dude from 'flight of the conchords'
― LOOK WHAT I BRING TO THE TABLA (deej), Monday, 2 February 2009 23:07 (sixteen years ago)
um, in this video, not thread
I still like a fair amount of his stuff. Let Love Rule was a big deal for me in 1989.Are You Gonna Go My way got annoying, but in retrospect, good song.It Ain't Over remains perfect. It Ain't Over remains perfect.

it's funny how on that album he seemed to be moving in a more contemporary and R&B-ish direction with those low key drum machine beats, and then "Fly Away" ended up being the big hit from it and he went right back to terrible uptempo retro rock

he is really short in person
Why is there no ILX celebrity sighting thread?

"Fly Away" sounded considerably less like something that could have been made in 1967 than his earlier stuff did. Yes, it has a verse and a chorus and a melody, but it sounds considerably more "modern" than his earlier stuff.

Generally, the first three albums are the ones to really have though.
he has very good taste in parisian falafels
― iatee, Friday, 6 February 2009 23:24 (sixteen years ago)
only one great song though, 'it ain't over til it's over'
― iatee, Friday, 6 February 2009 23:29 (sixteen years ago)
"I Built This Garden For Us" is still his best ever song.

hes underrated as a producer. that cree summer album he did had some really good tracks imo. not heard the new labelle album yet but apparently his songs are some of the best on there.

Ever see that documentary some years ago about Mick Jagger making his solo album?
He visits Lenny, who has an immaculate rock star pad: red leather settees, steel and smoked glass tables. But when he gets Mick a cup of tea, he puts a little paper doilly down on the table.
People were discussing on the radio the next day how he completely blew his image.

Good use of 'If I could fall in love' in Blue Crush though.

after lenny kravitz and other o_O shit recently, is there any obvious-punchline-artist ilm *won't* touch? barry manilow? billy joel?

ilm believes that rehabilitation is possible for everyone after a suitable period, even Nik Kershaw.

God I hate every note ever to emerge from his guitar and/or throat. except I liked "let love rule" when it first came out. also, he stole lisa bonet from me.

i think It's Your Life from 5 is my favourite song of his.

From all of us.
There's some Lenny Kravitz I love, some I just like. But there's only one I hate: "Fly Away"

he was really good live after that album that came out after 5. really good funky rock n roll. sometimes a bit surprisingly so - didnt expect leonard to be doing gospelly breakdowns in concert but he pulled it off. aparently hes made a funk album which id be interested to hear but wouldnt expect to be amazing - though if hes got more tracks like 'live' then id like to.
