was just thinking about what a wacky hit-and-miss history the Neptunes have had as label owners/A&Rs, but still pretty consistent compared to a lot of contemporary vanity labels...hopefully this label will be made more interesting by the fact that ILX canon fodder like the first N*E*R*D album and the first couple Kelis albums were released before Star Trak.

clones had some joints tho

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:22 (sixteen years ago)

this poll is mainly my excuse to make the challopsy declaration that the 3 best albums here are ones that Pharrell didn't play or sing or produce a note of: the first Kenna, the Spymob, and the last Robin Thicke.

some dude, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:25 (sixteen years ago)

R&C (Rhythm & Challop): The Masterpiece

Voted Something Else over Tasty and Lord Willin'

Robo-Tony! Robo-Toni! Robo-Toné! (The Reverend), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:30 (sixteen years ago)

Spymob is kind of my hopeless pet cause that I think will never get over the stigma of being a lol rock band on a rap label, I guess people thinking they were on some RHCP funk rock shit because of the version of the NERD album they played on, but Sitting Around Keeping Score is serious potential album of the decade shit to me.

some dude, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:34 (sixteen years ago)

although ironically i have never heard the High Speed Scene and have generally assumed the worst about them.

some dude, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:35 (sixteen years ago)

I like the Spymob song on Clones a lot. Never knew they released an album.

Robo-Tony! Robo-Toni! Robo-Toné! (The Reverend), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:35 (sixteen years ago)

Tell you what. I'll download the Spymob album if I can find.

Robo-Tony! Robo-Toni! Robo-Toné! (The Reverend), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:36 (sixteen years ago)

haha cool. i didn't like the Clones song much at first but it grew on me in the context of the album.

some dude, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:38 (sixteen years ago)

most of these have at least a few awesome tracks (pharrell's solo album being the bottom of the barrel, maybe? no idea about kenna, high speed scene, or the teryaki boyz).

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:51 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, i mean you could fill a great mix CD with just singles from these albums, definitely.

some dude, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 03:59 (sixteen years ago)

Kenna is def worth looking into.

Robo-Tony! Robo-Toni! Robo-Toné! (The Reverend), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 04:02 (sixteen years ago)

oh. you'll prob have to dbl-click thru those

Robo-Tony! Robo-Toni! Robo-Toné! (The Reverend), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

Damn, Spymob album was dope. Weird how they managed to sound like a cross between Fall Out Boy and Maroon 5 a few years too early.

Robo-Tony! Robo-Toni! Robo-Toné! (The Reverend), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 08:00 (sixteen years ago)

voted 1st robin thicke over the 1st clipse

Teriyaki Boyz - Serious Japanese

^^^this stunningly bad, as if someone specifically sat down to make an awful album

Peter "One Dart" Manley (The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:12 (sixteen years ago)

i know this is i love music and all but if you listened to the teriyaki boyz album - even for pay - you should be reevaluating how you're spending your time

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:13 (sixteen years ago)

Take it to The Church, son.

Peter "One Dart" Manley (The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:22 (sixteen years ago)

that snoop album was exec produced by the neptunes? didnt know.

id vote for either of the clipse albums, the first kenna (2nd one is strangely unsatisfying) or the first nerd album.

p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:36 (sixteen years ago)

also, already platinum is underrated.

p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:36 (sixteen years ago)

"this poll is mainly my excuse to make the challopsy declaration that the 3 best albums here are ones that Pharrell didn't play or sing or produce a note of"

its still prob the best rap debut of the 00s, but lord willin would have been vastly improved if it featured no pharrell vocals (except for the talking on grindin).

p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:37 (sixteen years ago)

not true

LOOK WHAT I BRING TO THE TABLA (deej), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:38 (sixteen years ago)

its scientifically proveable that pharrell vocals were 'awesome faux mayfield' through 2002

LOOK WHAT I BRING TO THE TABLA (deej), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:38 (sixteen years ago)

what other songs have pharrell vocals?

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:39 (sixteen years ago)

so many album track bangers on that shit - "virginia", "young boy", joint w/ jada & styles & the one w/ fab. album is def a classic

your infinity in you is mad lifted (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:40 (sixteen years ago)

loads.

xpost - mayfield would never sound that narcissistic.

p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:42 (sixteen years ago)

i will still rep for fly or die

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:42 (sixteen years ago)

fly or die is their most kravitzy album but yeah, its still good and gets a bad rep but it has some of pharrells best melodies.

p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:43 (sixteen years ago)

i just have irrational hatred for pharrel.

p-noid (titchyschneiderMk2), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 09:53 (sixteen years ago)

The Clipse album is a masterpiece, so, that.

Also Deej OTM re Pharrell in 2002.

haha otm. the album was finished I think around the time of In Search Of, but it ended up coming out through Ruthless Records with zero promotion in '04, right around the time Maroon 5 was blowing up, so I was like "there's totally a market for this stuff! they're just not the band that got to capitalize on it!"

1. Kelis - Tasty
2. Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury
3. Kenna - New Sacred Cow
4. Robin Thicke - Something Else
5. Snoop - R&G

De Pussyclot Dolls (The Brainwasher), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 20:39 (sixteen years ago)

Tasty is actually Kelis' best album, contrary to popular opinion

De Pussyclot Dolls (The Brainwasher), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 20:40 (sixteen years ago)

i've made my peace with the fact that there are people that like Hell Hath No Fury, but i'm still surprised to see anyone state a preference for it over Lord Willin'

n00bian princess (some dude), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 20:43 (sixteen years ago)

I like both albums a lot, I just think HHNF has better beats and is a more concise 'album'.

Hell Hath No Fury, but then again I haven't heard a lot of these albums.

Is the first Clipse album worth anything?

brightscreamer, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 02:22 (sixteen years ago)

if by the first Clipse album you mean Lord Willin then by all means yes, but if you mean Exclusive Audio Footage then no.

Chester French finds the Way, the Truth, and Life in the Jonas Brothers

WHAA??

Chester French talks about their upcoming album, "Love The Future," and from where they find inspiration... Jonas Brothers and Michael Bolton?

so wait am i seriously supposed to be shocked or tickled that a college-age preppy rock band is into a high school-age preppy rock band?
