As a seven-year-old, I thought Maxine Nightengale was singing, "We gotta get right back to our wits."

Huh?

btw, "Living Thing" says the Mr. who listens to him.

Have to abstain since you left out Crystal Gayle's great "Midnight In the Desert" (which made my top 10 singles list a few years ago solely on the basis of hearing it on Art Bell's show while driving from Pennsylvania to NYC very early Monday mornings):

HUGE mistake in leaving out Nancy & Lee's "Some Velvet Morning." Art had Lee as a guest on the show because of it!

You also forgot Sniff 'N' The Tears' "Driver's Seat"

Anyway, here's the complete list:

fwiw, i actually think 'driver's seat,' 'tusk,' 'bette davis eyes,' 'waterloo,' maybe one or two more of those are better than that crystal gayle song, but i don't associate any of those others with art bell nearly as much.

xhuxk, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 00:47 (sixteen years ago)

(actually, looking at that link, way more than one or two others.)

The first time I every heard "Nothing But A Heartache" by The Flirtations was as bumper music for "Coast to Coast". It might be my favorite song of all time. So I abstain from voting since it's not on this list.
