Best Radiohead Album?
Best Radiohead Album

shame....dont think we've had an In Rainbows poll yet, maybe do that instead?

unaustralian (jabba hands), Tuesday, 3 February 2009 23:58 (sixteen years ago)

Never heard of these guys. Are they a Talking Heads tribute act or something?

i fuck mathematics, Tuesday, 3 February 2009 23:59 (sixteen years ago)

Still "OK Computer".

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 03:47 (sixteen years ago)

Geir OTM

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 03:55 (sixteen years ago)

And yet on the past two polls Kid A has been ahead with the double of votes.

Moka, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 03:58 (sixteen years ago)

Because this is ILM. Ask the Q or Mojo readers (that is, people with good taste in music), and the only serious contender possibly preventing "OK Computer" from winning would be "The Bends". :)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 04:00 (sixteen years ago)

My my... I just realized I made a comment on one of those threads and I completely forgot about it to the point of repeating the same thread, even more that one is not even 6 months old.

My most sincere apologies.

Moka, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 04:01 (sixteen years ago)

Q or Mojo readers (that is, people with good taste in music)

ha

Moka, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 04:02 (sixteen years ago)

Geir, out of curiosity, do you ever change your mind on whether you like a piece of music or how much you like one? And if so, how does this work with your theory of objective-goodness of music?

iatee, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 04:03 (sixteen years ago)

"OK Computer" influenced Travis, Coldplay, Muse and Keane, and thus gave the world a lot of marvellous music.
― Geir Hongro, viernes 2 de marzo de 2007 12:1

Probably you hitted there the subconcious reason why I cannot rank this one above Kid A or even In Rainbows.

Moka, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 04:11 (sixteen years ago)

oh, geirpaws

k3vin k., Wednesday, 4 February 2009 04:15 (sixteen years ago)

If there was no huge critical consensus around the holy trilogy of The Bends/OK Computer/Kid A and all the voters' sunny optimistic sheeplike behavior was dissolved, the winner would be Hail to the Thief -- truly the best Radiohead album.

ilxor, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 05:27 (sixteen years ago)

BAAAAA YAYWOO

the maximum value that ZS obtains given its constraint is 8 (Z S), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 05:31 (sixteen years ago)

For me the holy trilogy would be Ok Computer/Kid A/In Rainbows. If Mr. Yorke werent so contrived about his own work, In Rainbows could have been the natural and smooth transition after Kid A. Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief sounded imho knackered - there were some great tracks on both albums, but there is also some of the most pretentious fodder they've ever recorded.

Ok Computer/Kid A/In Rainbows are very tight and concise albums. I think they're perfect, wouldn't add or remove any song from them. Albums like The Bends, Amnesiac, the Eraser and HTTT sound more like transitions to me, while I'm not completely in love with them, the perfection achieved on those three albums wouldn't be possible if it werent for this 'transitions'.

Moka, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 05:40 (sixteen years ago)

It took me about five years to realize that the correct answer is Kid A

Ricky Apples (Pillbox), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 07:16 (sixteen years ago)

This is the correct order:
In Rainbows
Kid A
The Bends
OK Computer
Amnesiac
Hail to the Thief

I haven't heard Pablo Honey in its entirety. Am I correct in assuming it's the least good? I love much of Hail, even, it's just uneven.

DJ Mr. Face Stabba, M.D. (Whitey on the Moon), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 08:37 (sixteen years ago)

I'd swap The Bends and OK Computer. Other than that, OTM.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 08:39 (sixteen years ago)

I'd like them a whole lot more if it wasn't for that annoying slurring way Thom Yorke sings, like he was a miserable 14 year old or something.

Zelda Zonk, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 09:14 (sixteen years ago)

I guess it's OK Computer, but I go with In Rainbows

Shin Oliva Suzuki, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 11:39 (sixteen years ago)

I still don't understand how anyone can listen to the entirety of In Rainbows in one sitting; basically it took songs from it popping up in Genius playlists for me to realize that, in isolation, I like a lot of the music on it, but putting it all together is akin to musical Kryptonite for me.

nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 15:13 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ youve said this before somewhere and I still dont get it. although it took me a while to get into it. i cant decide between in rainbows and kid a. but HTTF is by far the worst

Michael B, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

This is the correct order:
In Rainbows
Kid A
The Bends
OK Computer
Amnesiac
Hail to the Thief

^yep

DavidM, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

Hail To The Thief is massively underrated.

nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 16:15 (sixteen years ago)

(I say this because it has a bunch of really great songs on it, is sequenced masterfully and basically is the only Radiohead album I listen to these days.)

nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 16:17 (sixteen years ago)

Yes. I don't understand why Hail To The Thief gets slagged on.

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

because it has a terrible title

mookieproof, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

I will take a stupid title over an oppressive melange of songs that sound so similarly eponymous that I still don't know their names.

nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

hold up

Dan otm. It's a great collection of songs, but as an album it's a great collection of songs.

Geir, out of curiosity, do you ever change your mind on whether you like a piece of music or how much you like one?

Once the tune gets into my head, I may like some stuff better than the first time I listen to it. That would be the 3rd or 4th listen at most, or maybe a bit more with complex prog suites.

But what I liked 20 years ago, I will always like just as much today as I did then.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

interesting (wasn't trying to troll you, really)

(also how is this thread still unlocked?)

iatee, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

The correct order:
OK Computer
The Bends
Hail To The Thief
In Rainbows
Amnesiac
Pablo Honey
Kid A

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

Hail To The Thief - OK Computer - Kid A
The Bends
Amnesiac
In Rainbows
the wailing laments of starving children
the mushy crackling sound made by a steamroller rolling over a puppy
Pablo Honey

nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 23:52 (sixteen years ago)

My intuition says, right now:

Hail to the Thief
Kid A
The Bends
Amnesiac
OK Computer
In Rainbows
Pablo Honey

ilxor, Thursday, 5 February 2009 03:39 (sixteen years ago)

^that's more like it (though I've been reconsidering the Bends a little bit...I mean the secons side starts with just, and then goes on to my iron lung and then follows through with bulletproof...that's a helluva one-two punch + bonghit...)

Just listened to The Bends for the first time in years, and I think it's one of the few albums that makes a compelling case for having more than one guitarist in a band (see also: Moby Grape, Television)
