this is the hardest poll ever, for me

welcome to the own zone population you (cankles), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 00:33 (sixteen years ago)

Can we vote "none"? Seriously, there's more shit here than any year since 1981.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 00:51 (sixteen years ago)

Tim McGraw's best album > Dixie Chicks' best album

xhuxk, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 00:56 (sixteen years ago)

i guess 'born again' it the best pick imo

steve goldberg variations (omar little), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 00:56 (sixteen years ago)

I don't even remember Silkk the Shocker.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 01:01 (sixteen years ago)

Oh come on, it beats 1998 to pieces. (Lots of pop albums with great singles, for one thing -- Britney, Xtina, Ricky Martin, Santana. Can't vouch for those entire albums, but they can't be that bad.)

xhuxk, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 01:27 (sixteen years ago)

dixie chicks and ratm are the only ones of these i actually own. i like dixie chicks better so ... that? (also, i didn't know foxy brown hit #1.)

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 01:29 (sixteen years ago)

or wait, ruff ryders! didn't even notice that.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 01:31 (sixteen years ago)

wow i have heard none of these all the way through. am guessing that the answer is ruff ryders even bfore checking the track listing though

xps Also, what the heck is wrong with 1981? (Hi Infidelity, Foreigner 4, For Those About To Rock, Bella Donna, Tattoo You, Journey Escape, Kim Carnes Mistaken Identity Pat Benatar Precious Time...how is that not an awesome list?)

xhuxk, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 01:35 (sixteen years ago)

creed

That's how I look at the options here: collections of singles. It's a great year for singles.

Also, what the heck is wrong with 1981? (Hi Infidelity, Foreigner 4, For Those About To Rock, Bella Donna, Tattoo You, Journey Escape, Kim Carnes Mistaken Identity Pat Benatar Precious Time...how is that not an awesome list?)

I'll cede Tattoo You and 4 (I haven't heard the Kim Carnes and Benatar; have no use for REO Speedwagon); still prefer the singles.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 01:56 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno, seems to me even a bunch of okay albums with great singles on them beats a bunch of so-what albums without great singles on them, but whatever.

xhuxk, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

so crazy that Ruff Ryders had 3 chart-topping albums that year...really technically 4, since And Then There Was X was #1 the last week of the year that the Billboard issue was technically dated 2000.

n00bian princess (some dude), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 02:15 (sixteen years ago)

er scratch that last "technically"

n00bian princess (some dude), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 02:15 (sixteen years ago)

abstaining. this was apparently the year i went snobby.

Gukbe, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 02:16 (sixteen years ago)

I think an interesting figure would be the total sales of these albums for this year since this was right around the peak of cd album sales. I'll bet the sales totals from this list alone are larger than the past three or four years of #1 albums combined.

matt2, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 03:51 (sixteen years ago)

Weak year, but I'll rep for the DMX.

Ricky Apples (Pillbox), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 07:11 (sixteen years ago)

Nas. And it's his 2nd worst album.

paulhw, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 15:34 (sixteen years ago)

Silkk the Shocker had a #1 album?

Limoncello Carlin (The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

pretty sure i'd dixie chicks over foxy, but i'm not sure about the garth

double bird strike (gabbneb), Wednesday, 4 February 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

You gotta admire Supernatural the way you admire a really well laid-out big-box store.

Eazy, Wednesday, 4 February 2009 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

Nas but it was a hard choice, nostalgia won it.

Josh L, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 01:18 (sixteen years ago)

This is so horrible I had to vote for Britney. In fact so horrible I almost had to go for Santana.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 05:42 (sixteen years ago)

Also, what the heck is wrong with 1981? (Hi Infidelity, Foreigner 4, For Those About To Rock, Bella Donna, Tattoo You, Journey Escape, Kim Carnes Mistaken Identity Pat Benatar Precious Time...how is that not an awesome list?)

My sole objection against the Billboard #1 albums list of 1981 is that the Music Week list is so much better.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 05:43 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)
