I fell in love with the Neon Philharmomic's "Morning Girl" when Monica Lynch played it on her WFMU show for Stephen Merritt. It's a charmingly condescending statement of "fuck 'em and forget 'em" abetted by lush orchestration, circa 1969.
On a whim, I try to get some info on the band and I find out that one of the masterminds behind the group, Tupper Saussy is not only still around but he has his own website. Nowadays he fulminates conspiratorially about the Constitution and makes paintings of paper bags. Huh.
What should I think (if anything)? And more importantly, what other rock stars can you think that have essentially retired and settled into a state of harmless crankdom?
