funk vs. afrobeat

theres 100s of funk tracks i love but on the whole i just find a lot of it (when its not song-based, on the whole) strangely unsatisfying. afrobeat fits my tastes better - its generally heavier/looser and seems to work its grooves harder while funk is a lot 'cooler' - sometimes it just sits in the groove and doesnt really push it forward as much as id like. gets boring.

Not that I don't love the funk, and maybe it's more a flavor of the moment, but I've been editing the groove parts from Fela tracks so, on the rare moments when I'm on the iPod, all I've listened to for months is Fela.

Fortunately there's TONS of it, and I'm amazed at the variety of beats.

false dichotomy as noted, the two are kinda inseparable in my mind, particularly given the cross-pollination involved (Fela copping from James Brown, Bootsy subsequently copping from Fela etc.)
