The high point of their career. I found this in my vinyl stacks by accident last week and actually played it. GOD what a moment in my teenagerhood when this thing came out. I mean GOD you could not even fuck with them in those days.

charles bronson reilly (donna rouge), Saturday, 7 February 2009 17:05 (sixteen years ago)

These people never did a better record in their lives. I'm so sorry.

this is so fucking difficult I don't even think I can answer this poll..

Jack Battery-Pack, Saturday, 7 February 2009 18:00 (sixteen years ago)

Well...that's a valid point of view. I understand. Believe me.

cry baby cry

Cry Baby Cry, if pushed to choose a favourite song of all time, that'd be it.

verhexen, Friday, 20 February 2009 00:53 (sixteen years ago)

Does anyone else hear Tanya's pronunciation of "snaAaAaAaAail head" as a hilarious Liz Fraser impression?

the kristin hersh stan in me is making me want to argue with this 'high point of their career' stuff. this ep is all great but she's been putting out solid gold material for like 23 years and it didn't tail off after 1987 at all. i will argue this at tedious length if necessary.

prefer the slower acoustic version of cry baby cry on the live at hoboken cd that came with red heaven. voted for finished, because cry baby cry is going to walk this among the five or so people that vote.

Still haven't heard this...

The Screaming Lobster of Challops (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 20 February 2009 01:38 (sixteen years ago)

this used to be so hard to find! took me forever to get a hold of it in the 90s. second the notion that no way is this EP the high point of their career. they stayed strong right up until they stopped. kristin hersh continues to release great albums, too.

AND WHY DO THE THROWING MUSES NOT HAVE A COMPREHENSIVE B-SIDES COLLECTION? All that stuff from Hunkpapa, Real Ramona, Red Heaven, University and Limbo needs to be compiled up on a CD stat.

as I pointed out in the gay thread, I'm giving Red Heaven an overdue first listen. The only tune I know is "Firepile," from my college days.

...you can't compete with barking dogs and coke machines!

f. hazel, Saturday, 21 February 2009 00:07 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, in retrospect, I should have known what would win this, but for some reason I started to think "Reel" had a fighting chance.

Coffee Table LP's Never Breathe! (Bimble), Saturday, 21 February 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

These are the Muses b-sides that need to be compiled onto a CD. Skipping the live recordings and remixes/alternate takes. Did I miss any?

Handsome Woman
Red Eyes
Like a Dog
Hillbilly
If

four months pass...

the best thing about this great ep is david narcizo - such an underrated drummer.
Finished sounds like a lost bombastic cut from Tusk, and it's not only because Hersh sounds like Nicks,it's also because of the amazing rhythm section.

nine years pass...

Make these people go away
Their coats are on my bed
And they're hanging hard
Talking about Jesus babies
I lose it
Know what danger is?
'Cause I'm in danger

thread revive made me take my copy out of the sleeve just to stare at the grooves for a little bit

Milton Parker, Thursday, 13 September 2018 03:08 (six years ago)

I know Cry Baby Cry is great, but there is nothing like the adrenaline rush and grim resignation of Finished.
True fact: I was such a Muses stan around 1990 that I bought the crazy expensive Japanese "12 Inch Anthology 1987" to get this on CD. Fortunately sold it on for more than I paid, a few years later when I was able to transfer it to CD-R, and then bought the Doghouse release with it on.
