monica premium versus woof/moo shirt.
is there any kind of overarching theme to this year?, like last year's attempt to raise a million?
― schlump, Tuesday, 10 February 2009 17:26 (seventeen years ago)
we'll know when Ken's "letter" is posted.
― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 10 February 2009 17:45 (seventeen years ago)
Seven Second Delay's Commemorative Plate: Now you can own a piece of history, commemorating the day that Ken and Andy posed for a plate with President Barack Obama. May increase in value. (Plate)
― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 10 February 2009 17:49 (seventeen years ago)
i think it's 10,000 pledges.
dj rupture's "all auto-tune" mix is not very enticing to me :(
― Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 10 February 2009 17:49 (seventeen years ago)
Still haven't listened to any of my premiums from last year.
― lemmy tristano (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 10 February 2009 17:53 (seventeen years ago)
Did anyone get rupture's Cumbia mix from last year?
― Alex in SF, Tuesday, 10 February 2009 17:53 (seventeen years ago)
The Sinner's Crossroads mix from last year was one of my favorite records in awhile! Sooo good.
Thanks for the heads up, am in for another Mouse Pledge this year.
― Mike McGooney-gal, Tuesday, 10 February 2009 18:17 (seventeen years ago)
I wish I could give more, but am always happy to chip in 10,000 pennies or so.
― WmC, Tuesday, 10 February 2009 18:28 (seventeen years ago)
I always wish I could give more, as well!
Man I love FMU, even when I hate it.
― Mike McGooney-gal, Tuesday, 10 February 2009 19:04 (seventeen years ago)
I don't know what to choose:(
ha, Mike OTM.
― tokyo rosemary, Wednesday, 11 February 2009 03:43 (seventeen years ago)
even when I hate it.
yes Mike, I "love" Kenny G too.
btw I would advise listening to tnite's Very Special Seven-Second Delay.

Their blog is the fucking greatest.
― i'm shy (Abbott), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:44 (seventeen years ago)
i always think the marathon shows are pretty fun. some djs totally aren't into getting paired up. i did a listener hour at fmu recently and had so much fun: have any of you volunteered or been entangled in marathons before?
― schlump, Monday, 16 February 2009 19:22 (seventeen years ago)
I've been to a marathon dance party at the station. Much fun!
― Capitaine Jay Vee, Monday, 16 February 2009 20:08 (seventeen years ago)
pretty much every year since '96 or '97 for me.
― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 17 February 2009 02:27 (seventeen years ago)
o joy, i get to be in the phoneroom 2x with Kenny G.
― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 24 February 2009 15:03 (seventeen years ago)
It's on! Hope all the vols make it thru the precip.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 March 2009 15:20 (sixteen years ago)
Dr Morbius, are you answering the phones this Wednesday?
― tokyo rosemary, Monday, 2 March 2009 17:54 (sixteen years ago)
lol, 'entangled'.
I think I was at the same dance party as Capitaine Jay Vee.
― tokyo rosemary, Monday, 2 March 2009 17:56 (sixteen years ago)
no tr, the following Wed eve.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 March 2009 17:58 (sixteen years ago)
For Dr. Morbius, working the phones during WFMU pledge week is like being on the Ed Sullivan show for Paul Lynde/Harry McAfee in Bye Bye Birdie.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 2 March 2009 20:26 (sixteen years ago)
not quite. It can be more like a Japanese game show.
I have no idea if I can write pledge cards legibly w/ my CTS-benumbed digits.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:32 (sixteen years ago)
i'm on the phones a bunch of times in the next couple of weeks. i have memories of stuffing envelopes at fmu being weirdly fun and fulfilling, so i have expectations of doing it while good shows are going on being satisfying (rather than being like call centre work). would like to know what to expect, especially if it's something that counters 'japanese game show'.
btw morbs, are you a wfmenthuuuuuusiast or do you help out and stuff sometimes?
― schlump, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:38 (sixteen years ago)
aside from the recfair & fundraiser my helping time has dwindled. I used to spend my summer Fridays there when I had them, and the station was still in East Orange.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 2 March 2009 20:43 (sixteen years ago)
Answering phones is way better than call center work. It can be hard to hear the pledger on the other end sometimes though, especially during the, ah, louder shows.
― tokyo rosemary, Monday, 2 March 2009 21:22 (sixteen years ago)
I've heard almost none of this yet... any highlights?
― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 19:56 (sixteen years ago)
Jason Sigal was pretty flat this morning...Trouble did what she could to liven up the proceedings, but it was a pretty numbing show.
― WmC, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 20:46 (sixteen years ago)
volunteers should read the Tom Petty chap/scrapbook for a list of Kenny G's MC highlights.
― Dr Morbius, Friday, 6 March 2009 05:09 (sixteen years ago)
i was telephoning today and saw the scrapbook with tom petty/cameron diaz on the front but didn't investigate. damn.
― schlump, Friday, 6 March 2009 05:42 (sixteen years ago)
hah schlump, who are you? i was there 9-5.
― Dr Morbius, Friday, 6 March 2009 14:26 (sixteen years ago)
ahh, i was only there from six thirty. i'm in a few more times: i'm mark and am british and pallid, keep a lookout for me. having heard how often like wendy?, and the girl from montclair whose name i don't know? are in, i feel like i should have set aside a fortnight to go in every day.
was really weirdly reaffirming taking donations. a couple of people called in to sinner's crossroads and made real big pledges, and it wasn't like making pledges in step with the prize threshholds, it was just sending in loads of money because they felt compelled to or because fmu needs it. good times.
― schlump, Friday, 6 March 2009 14:38 (sixteen years ago)
I left a memento in the scrapbook from Kenny G's show.
It is not clippings from Honcho.
― tokyo rosemary, Friday, 6 March 2009 15:04 (sixteen years ago)
I am relieved KG's guarantee of phone sex went unfulfilled.
― Dr Morbius, Friday, 6 March 2009 15:07 (sixteen years ago)
I only caught a few minutes of Thursday - did he have his stunt cock that day, too??
― tokyo rosemary, Friday, 6 March 2009 15:10 (sixteen years ago)
uh, no.
He was on fire from 12:30-2 tho, worth a listen.
― Dr Morbius, Friday, 6 March 2009 15:32 (sixteen years ago)
if any of you are on the phones upstairs anytime soon, you may be able to see my artist's impression of how i imagine kevin nutt looks, amongst the tapestry of phone drawings on the paper table cloth.
i actually need to listen to more marathon shows.
― schlump, Friday, 6 March 2009 16:34 (sixteen years ago)
Pseu & Kenny tonight... like Mae West pairing w/ WC Fields (or Claudette Colbert & The Weenie King)
― Dr Morbius, Friday, 6 March 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)
The last two of those inspired the title of this truncated thread
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 6 March 2009 18:01 (sixteen years ago)
i was the one labeled "a known alcoholic" on Fri night (love Pseu!)
― Dr Morbius, Sunday, 8 March 2009 08:12 (sixteen years ago)
who got a diva name from Monica?
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 9 March 2009 00:05 (sixteen years ago)
i did!there was a scramble to come up with more to catch up with donations. i was really pushing for "amazing grace jones" after she said it talking about a record.
― deveraux billings (schlump), Monday, 9 March 2009 02:45 (sixteen years ago)
Chardonnay Auberjonois!!
― tokyo rosemary, Monday, 9 March 2009 12:20 (sixteen years ago)
mine was Remington Chunks. :/
Y'all know the finale at Maxwells is open to public, right? $5
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 9 March 2009 13:49 (sixteen years ago)
i missed remington chunks. i know there was a 'champagle' or champagne but missed chardonnay too. one of the volunteers was writing them all down, it looked like some burlesque directory.
should be at the finale thing too hopefully
― deveraux billings (schlump), Monday, 9 March 2009 15:17 (sixteen years ago)
I will be at most of the finale, but will miss the end because my last train is at midnight.
― tokyo rosemary, Monday, 9 March 2009 21:41 (sixteen years ago)
I never knew... Aimee Mann is part of the Scharpling universe?
― Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)
hope Ken has some tricks left for Andy tonight
― Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 11 March 2009 13:54 (sixteen years ago)
$ 800 G?
― Dr Morbius, Thursday, 12 March 2009 21:21 (sixteen years ago)
i think I'm going to have to skip Yo La Tengo tonight in favor of Kuchar Bros films. how many Rihanna requests will they get?
― Dr Morbius, Friday, 13 March 2009 17:07 (sixteen years ago)
boo. i am looking forward to it. are you going sunday?
― deveraux billings (schlump), Friday, 13 March 2009 19:02 (sixteen years ago)
yes. I will be in JC first, shortly after Jonesy Time.
(will maybe wear green Mardi Gras beads)
Ken email sounding alarm about falling short of goal. Hope YLT & IBJ take care of that.
― Dr Morbius, Friday, 13 March 2009 19:09 (sixteen years ago)
C&W version of "Popcorn" was weird.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 March 2009 00:28 (sixteen years ago)
I wonder if da croupier requested that last one.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 March 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)
well we could tell that was sposta sound like Mark E Smith.
― Dr Morbius, Saturday, 14 March 2009 01:34 (sixteen years ago)
I wish "Mother Sky" had gone on longer.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 March 2009 02:49 (sixteen years ago)
Sounds like Only Ones coming up.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 March 2009 02:52 (sixteen years ago)
i'm really not hearing anything that matches my "Baseball Altamont" classic request
― Dr Morbius, Saturday, 14 March 2009 02:58 (sixteen years ago)
but good call, JR
― Dr Morbius, Saturday, 14 March 2009 02:59 (sixteen years ago)
They're going to sing a line of your song at the end of "Another Girl, Another Planet," Morbius, same as what happened with my "Banana Splits" request last year, although I don't remember what the finale was.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 March 2009 03:00 (sixteen years ago)
Well, at the end of this "One" I guess.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 March 2009 03:02 (sixteen years ago)
oh i havent paid for a request in years! (one was "Love Power")"Altamont" made the CD.
― Dr Morbius, Saturday, 14 March 2009 03:02 (sixteen years ago)
"is M.I.A a hardcore band?"
― tokyo rosemary, Saturday, 14 March 2009 03:08 (sixteen years ago)
They were thinking of TSOL.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 March 2009 03:12 (sixteen years ago)
there HAD to be one called MIA back in the day
― Dr Morbius, Saturday, 14 March 2009 03:17 (sixteen years ago)
Yup. Look at the bill: TSOL, DI, Germs, MIA, Dickies, Mike Watt, Fear, Big Drill Car -- who wouldn't want to be on that bill?
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 14 March 2009 03:21 (sixteen years ago)
damn, still 200G short...
― Dr Morbius, Sunday, 15 March 2009 12:47 (sixteen years ago)
I just don't see them getting there in this economy. It's a tough dilemma -- abandon the Manhattan booster antenna and refocus on what they've got, or stretch themselves thin with the booster, assuming it would bring them more donors in the future? I wouldn't want to have to make that call.
― WmC, Sunday, 15 March 2009 13:54 (sixteen years ago)
maybe if they get to 1.1-1.15 they can improvise. i don't see em abandoning booster.
― Dr Morbius, Sunday, 15 March 2009 16:15 (sixteen years ago)
i'm glad i didnt leave at 11:30, cuz thats when things got real gay.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 March 2009 06:00 (sixteen years ago)
I am a little sad I missed Bohemian Rhapsody.
― tokyo rosemary, Monday, 16 March 2009 13:26 (sixteen years ago)
oh maaaan! Mac's performance was ... spirited (also, nice torso). I was kind of appalled to see ppl in their 20s singing along to every word.
Also Pseu = excellent Bangle, and Rich did my favorite Mekons song.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 March 2009 13:31 (sixteen years ago)
i didn't know that pseu song but it was great
― deveraux billings (schlump), Monday, 16 March 2009 13:39 (sixteen years ago)
Pseu sang my favorite Bangles song!
I was kind of appalled to see ppl in their 20s singing along to every word.
Blame Wayne's World!!

I thought you might.
― tokyo rosemary, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:23 (sixteen years ago)
however putting "Rhapsody" in a comedy context is far more acceptable than doing it, uh, straight.
I also really expected Tom S to do the Seger hat trick by finishing w/ "Night Moves."
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 March 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)
also, brilliant line: after outgrossing Nachum Segal, Scharpling to host "Palestinian Moments in the PM."

Friday whut? I was not at Yo La Tengo.
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 16 March 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)
So you weren't. I'll never find it again. Maybe it was around the Seven Second Delay where they were dress as Sgt. Pepper Beatles? In any case, the guy that looked like you was wearing a burnt-orange shirt with some kind of paisley pattern.
― moe greene dolphin street (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 16 March 2009 16:33 (sixteen years ago)
oh yeah, I think I wore that at 7SD.
