I went instinctively with "We Belong Together," but you guys have reminded me how surprised I was at how much I loved "Let Me Love You" when it came out. Surprised b/c I never liked anything I heard from him before or since.

"let me love you" is as good as yall are saying but "we belong together" is a str8 up all timer

i like all of these songs except the underwood one which i havent heard

Oh man, I've been obsessed with that Mario song for a month. Part of me wants it to win, but "We Belong Together" is sooooooooo great ("I can't sleep at night when you are on my mind/Bobby Womack's on the radio, singing to me 'If you think you're lonely now'/Wait a minute, this is too deep, too deep, I gotta change the station/so I turn the dial, trying to catch a break, and then I hear Babyface: 'I only think of you,' and it's breaking my heart, I'm trying to keep it together, but I'm falling apart").

i can't pick between gold digger and run it...i'm deferring to my last.fm play count, which says that i've played gold digger 15 times and run it 12 times so i guess i have to go with mr. kanye.

never heard the underwood

2005 was about the time that I decided that I would only listen to 60s music. I started about a 2 year stretch of not listening to the radio at all. I think it started to bother me the moment I saw one of those banner ad "quizzes" about a singer that a two year old could answer and I had no idea. I should probably get some old Now! CDs and brush up on the past few years.

Gold Digger I remember listening to after it made the ILM year end poll, don't remember how I heard Run It. The 2005 poll was important for me actually, it introduced me to Robyn (again), Girls Aloud, the Sugababes and probably a bunch of others, and got me out of my niche.

Cool. Both those songs are completely worth checking out.

I think one of the best things about "We Belong Together" is how well they not just get around, but use the fact that her voice is shot. Most of the vocals are pretty subdued and don't allow her new rasp to be heard, until that last chorus where she belts it out and you finally hear what's become of her voice. It's a devastating effect.

Right. Because most of her other songs that do that are retreads of "We Belong Together".

It's not a matter of age burt, I was 16 in 2005 and I only recognize 2 of these songs.

mario, then gwen stefani, then everything else more or less equally, then "candy shop". the carrie underwood i haven't heard.

I can't tell if it's just me, but I think of 2005 as a banner year for chart-pop. Other top 10 hits included "Since U Been Gone," "Oh," "Lose Control," "Pon de Replay," "Mr. Brightside," "Hate It Or Love It," "1 Thing," and "Outta Control (Remix)," and "Stay Fly" and "Feel Good Inc." almost made it, too.

Always preferred "How We Do" to "Hate It or Love It" but totally agread.

It's part of why I like Night Ripper so much.
