So they've supposedly been dating, and are now engaged. Woohoo!

This is probably a "lesser of two evils" situation for most of us, but... whose music do you prefer?

Come on, it's funny.

I gotta find a new crush.

This is Ryan Adams. In three weeks, he'll decide he doesn't want to be engaged anymore and write 99 songs about it.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 February 2009 08:15 (seventeen years ago)

all of them will suck

Re: the object of the poll

I thought it was cool a few years ago when Mandy did that covers album, and completely alienated her former fanbase by covering XTC, Todd Rundgren, The Waterboys, etc. Also, I like "Candy" fwiw.

Ryan is such a drama queen, and writes and records far too often. But when he's on, he's really on. I could distill the best of his stuff onto an 80 min cd and he'd sound like a genius. Not sure how much to deduct from his score for the mountains of unforgiveable garbage, though.

TIE!

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 14 February 2009 08:23 (seventeen years ago)

One was on Entourage and in that awesome movie Saved! (and I don't know her music). The other one sucks balls.

raaaaaaaaaah (a hoy hoy), Saturday, 14 February 2009 11:10 (seventeen years ago)

Mandy is cute and had some good tunes. Ryan looks like Fred Armisen in drag and is boring.

Both had articles written about them in No Depression but only Mandy's caused dozens of stick-up-the-ass subscribers to pitch a fit. So Mandy obv.

this phrasing is funny to me. were there pop kids still paying attention to MM as a singer at that point that were actually alienated by her covering '80s college rock?

some dudes might think about blow jobs, like, way way way less (some dude), Saturday, 14 February 2009 15:05 (seventeen years ago)

'candy' was awesome and all but then she turned into this person who was all 'oh chart music is meaningless pap' which just seemed... both boring and assholish considering where she'd come from?

c sharp major, Saturday, 14 February 2009 15:28 (seventeen years ago)

actually having googled i think i've misrepresented her. On covering umbrella: “This was one of my favorite songs of the moment. I’m not a big Top 40s type of listener but you just can’t deny how melodic this song is."

i suspect it was the word 'melodic' that set off the alarm bells.

c sharp major, Saturday, 14 February 2009 15:30 (seventeen years ago)

what, like mandy hongro?

Plaxico (I know, right?), Saturday, 14 February 2009 15:38 (seventeen years ago)

I like her cover of "Drop the Pilot" a lot!

There was an unfortunate James Brown influence on the rhythm track but the Yes-like harmonics balanced it out.

President Keyes, Saturday, 14 February 2009 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

when i hear the word 'melodic' i reach for my revolver.

c sharp major, Saturday, 14 February 2009 17:02 (seventeen years ago)

i would worry if i ever started fretting about how rockist mandy moore comes across in interviews.

s1ocki, Saturday, 14 February 2009 17:08 (seventeen years ago)

ryan adams made some great music with whiskeytown and his first solo album. but then dopped off a cliff. < mandy was hot/is still hot.

bnw, Saturday, 14 February 2009 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

quirky!

butt-rock miyagi (rogermexico.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 17:56 (seventeen years ago)

ha i just talked about this with a semi-corny coworker this week. he was like "i can't believe this!? well, maybe mandy moore is much deeper than she seems"

and then i said maybe his opinion of ryan adams was in need of revision basically.

goole, Saturday, 14 February 2009 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

wtf!

If I knew Mandy Moore, I would pull her aside for some friendly girl talk about reevaluating her taste in men. Andy Roddick, Wilmer Valderrama, Zach Braff, Ryan Adams, bleh.

Disco/Very (Roz), Saturday, 14 February 2009 18:33 (seventeen years ago)

and vinnie chase, yikes

drop the pilot is pretty good, her voice is untamed in a way that intrigues me

Candy.

Saturate Me.

This isn't even close.

"Saturate Me" is so, so, so awesome.

ilxor, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 00:47 (seventeen years ago)

Seriously, what Ryan Adams song is supposed to be better than "Saturate Me"?

There's just something about Mandy Moore's mouth....

wow that is awful. good thing she is hot.

I always hate becoming acquainted with bad lyrics.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 05:18 (seventeen years ago)

seems mandy moore's team got some pointers from the linkin park folk on the lyrics front

Charlie Howard, Wednesday, 18 February 2009 05:46 (seventeen years ago)

I really liked that Mandy Moore take on "Breaking Us in Two," actually. But I'd not compare it to 90% of the Gold album. (He lost me somewhere between Demolition and Rock N Roll; a friend's trying to convince me to give his Cardinals albums a chance.)

three weeks pass...

Newlyweds Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams enjoy a romantic stroll through Runyon Canyon in the Hollywood Hills on Friday morning (April 3).

The couple, who celebrates their one-month anniversary next Friday, haven’t been on a honeymoon yet but Mandy is a-okay with that!

“We’ll have to talk about it,” she told E!. “I’m happy being home. Home is a honeymoon enough for me!”

three years pass...

Asked about his wife this past September during a call-in interview with an Australian radio show, Adams said, "I just don't share at all about my personal life."

When pressed, he hung up.

I think this makes me like Ryan Adams more than anything I've ever read about him.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 24 January 2015 06:11 (eleven years ago)

rip, i hope she has plenty of jandek records to guide her through this difficult time

mitt fleekwood (get bent), Saturday, 24 January 2015 06:36 (eleven years ago)

Knowing what I (or frankly anyone) knows about Ryan Adams, I can only imagine how difficult it is to stay married to him. When Johnny Depp, Bob Mould, Greg Ginn or whomever finally go home, it's you and him and the pinball machines.
