I'm a big fan. The Mix-in-go remix album from 85 gets a lot of rotation on my player and early classics like "She's Got A Gun" often find their way onto my more interesting mixtapes.

Also, listening to things like Msr. Coconut's latin Kraftwerk covers, and dull French/Brazilian house music, reminds me how right Yello got the whole manic, techno-latin thing on mash-ups like Pinball Cha-Cha and Downtown Samba.

A final question that only occured to me recently. Yello : Straight or Gay? I never heard. (But how else does an alleged aristo- golf champion hook up with an impoverished but talented truck driver? :-) Should we be classifying them with Soft Cell, Bronski Beat, Erasure and Pet Shop Boys as part of a gay disco / proto-techno axis?

my interest in yello mainly lies in the question "exactly *how many* eighties teen comedies had the one that goes "oh yeah - chicka chicka" in?" immediately "ferris bueler" and "the secret of my success" - does the fact that they were used in these shiny but empty films say more about the films or the song? i'm sure there are more examples of it being used as well...

'rhythm divine' - one of the best singles of the 80's. wow. best version : the one off 'essential yello'. backing vocals by billy mckenzie, lead by shirley bassey, and years + years before the propellerheads had a go with the tiger bay diva and made a total hash of it.
