bands that sound like and are better than the black lips

i don't know how anyone else feel about it but i'm a little underwhelmed by 200 million thousand. i loved "good bad not evil" but somehow feel like they've regressed? since getting into the band a couple years ago i've discovered a slew of bands that not only sound alot like the black lips but are kind of better, too. not that anyone should stop liking the black lips, but they've gotten alot of press for pissing in each other's mouths and have turned our attentions away from some equally attention-deserving bands.anyways, probably there is already an ILE thread for in the red/garagewhatever bands but here we go:

harlem (www.myspace.com/harlemduh)

the strange boys (www.myspace.com/thestrangeboys)

all these 2nd gen black lips bands seem less good than black lips, but maybe better than black lips on a bad day. harlem record is excellent, though.

although i don't think they sound all THAT much like the black lips, agreeance on the "being better than" part

contenderizer, Sunday, 15 February 2009 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

same ballpark, i guess...

crusaders of love are doin some of the best black lips songs since let it bloom and killed @ gonerfest last year. christmas island are a good time as well.

there's a ton of stuff in this vein discussed on the rolling non-indie punk thread, too!

There is something nice about listening to bands that actually exist on the earth at this time.
Even if they play in an old style.

The Grabbass Charlestons are the wrong scene of punk for this thread, but there are still some similarities, and I'm out of touch with the modern world.

I just listened to all the Black bands (to finally get them straight), and I kind of liked the Black Hollies.

i don't know if that's really what i meant by bands that sound like the black lips. it's obviously an influence, and who cares what you call it, but do the black lips really just play "60's garage"? i think there's a little bit (but not much) more to it.

the new album is kind of a dud but the black lips fucking rule
