WELL I'M NOT O'FUCKING K, OK?

^ Brilliant stuff.

Mordy, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:15 (seventeen years ago)

"I'm Not Ok" definitely.

half troll half biscuit (The Brainwasher), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i'm not okay, although i like the black parade stuff better. "sugar we're going down" is also awesome, whereas i write sins not tragedies only has a good hook

big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:18 (seventeen years ago)

I prefer later FOB and MCR stuff, but P!ATD will never top "I Write Sins Not Tragedies".

I would much rather listen to hard bop jazz and stfu (The Reverend), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:20 (seventeen years ago)

v otm

big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:21 (seventeen years ago)

Actually they already did top that, with the song they released after it...

half troll half biscuit (The Brainwasher), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

nothing's better than "sugar, we're going down"

J0hn D., Monday, 16 February 2009 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

I thought "Nine in the Afternoon" was among some of the best stuff P!ATD has done.

Mordy, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:22 (seventeen years ago)

xp "but it's better if you do"

half troll half biscuit (The Brainwasher), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

xp I agree, but it still ain't a patch on "Sins"

I would much rather listen to hard bop jazz and stfu (The Reverend), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

All 3 are classic. If you picked "Helena", there would be no contest but "I'm Not OK" actually feels less ... massive than the other two. I'm leaning towards P!ATD. They handle rhythm deftly!

(Where are all of you on my Green Day thread?)

million xposts Have you guys heard A Fever You Can't Sweat Out? It's all good, for real! (Actually, Pretty Odd is really solid too.)

Sundar, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

What Green Day thread?

Mordy, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:24 (seventeen years ago)

TS: "Jesus of Suburbia" vs "Homecoming"

Sundar, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:24 (seventeen years ago)

all of these songs are completely ridiculous but "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" seems the most gloriously, unabashedly so

if you like it then you shoulda put a donk on it (bernard snowy), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:27 (seventeen years ago)

You scrunch your mouth up in Flint's direction. "I found the exit."

You can't have heard "I'm Not OK" and actually believe that. "TRUST ME."

Mordy, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:28 (seventeen years ago)

lol at C/P failing to grab snowy's remark and instead pasting some Nascar fanfic.

haha "Sins" totally sounds like a Destiny's Child song, at least until the guitars come in

I like "I'm Not Okay", but can never remember how it goes.

it goes

I"M NOOOOOOOOOT OOOOOOOOOOO-KKAAAAAAAYYYYYY

half troll half biscuit (The Brainwasher), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:31 (seventeen years ago)

Mordy it is quite possible that "I'm Not Okay" is actually more ridiculous than "I Write Sins" but I've never been able to sit through the whole thing. it's so plodding and monotonous and just... UGH.

if you like it then you shoulda put a donk on it (bernard snowy), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:34 (seventeen years ago)

It's like 2 min!

Sundar, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

I don't really like "Sugar We're Going Down,"... honestly the only FOB singles I like are "Dance Dance" and "Takover, The Break's Over"

half troll half biscuit (The Brainwasher), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:35 (seventeen years ago)

I like "Dance Dance" a lot more than "Sugar", too, but I gotta admit, the "friction in your jeans" line is pretty good

^^^I mentioned this on ILx at the time, that it was basically a modern day R&B track.

Ringtone bisexual bible shower (The stickman from the hilarious xkcd comics), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

I like the "notch in your bedpost/Line in a song" thing too. "Dance, Dance" is OK but kind of annoying.

Sundar, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:39 (seventeen years ago)

line in a song zing is high qual

this is insane - dunno how one could think a song /w "i'm not okay"'s chorus could be plodding

big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:40 (seventeen years ago)

I dunno, I just tune it out after a while. I'll try listening to it again, but from past experience it just feels like a big slab of tuneless rhythmless hi-gain rawk. there is literally nothing in it that holds my interest.

if you like it then you shoulda put a donk on it (bernard snowy), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:43 (seventeen years ago)

like somehow if you crossed all the worst qualities of nu-metal, emo, and pop-punk, "I'm Not OK" is what you would be left with

if you like it then you shoulda put a donk on it (bernard snowy), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:44 (seventeen years ago)

I'm Not OK has the best video which is pretty much all that matters to me when it comes to these guys.

Disco/Very (Roz), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:45 (seventeen years ago)

I can agree with that, but the P!atD video is a very very close second

if you like it then you shoulda put a donk on it (bernard snowy), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:47 (seventeen years ago)

Best bits of each track:

"Sugar, We're Going Down" - "Loaded God complex, cock it and pull it"
"I'm Not OK (I Promise)" - that quickly whispered "trust me"
"I Write Sins Not Tragedies" The first "I chime in..."

Ringtone bisexual bible shower (The stickman from the hilarious xkcd comics), Monday, 16 February 2009 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

Dom, do you like A Fever You Can't Sweat Out?

Sundar, Monday, 16 February 2009 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

Outside of "I Write Sins" and "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage", no, not really. P!ATD always struck me as an indie band playing at emo because it was the big thing then, and when they dropped the emo sound on "Pretty Odd" for that haircut indie mess I felt vindicated.

Ringtone bisexual bible shower (The stickman from the hilarious xkcd comics), Monday, 16 February 2009 01:01 (seventeen years ago)

I damn near laughed my head off when I saw the "Northern Downpour" video. How pastorally indie of them. P!ATD are one-trick ponies who should have at least had the good grace to give us gradually diminishing returns and maybe eventually get a second song as good as "I Write Sins", which still lags the other two.

Clearly the other two are immense and not even their best singles!

what you know about hat? I know all about hat. (edwardo), Monday, 16 February 2009 01:12 (seventeen years ago)

i don't think Panic really had/have any idea wtf they are. if they hadn't been discovered by Wentz i imagine they'd have more of a Decemberists-type career, and i have no idea what the better/worse on that would be.

z8080 smith (some dude), Monday, 16 February 2009 05:14 (seventeen years ago)

the other bands improved after these songs, but it was all downhill for MCR after "I'm Not OK." also so by far the best of these songs.

z8080 smith (some dude), Monday, 16 February 2009 05:14 (seventeen years ago)

panic is pretty irrelevant as it stands right now

damn al, black parade is such a classic

big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Monday, 16 February 2009 05:18 (seventeen years ago)

black parade was one of the biggest fall-offs any band has had in recent memory, i wish jess was still on the board to have my back on this.

z8080 smith (some dude), Monday, 16 February 2009 05:40 (seventeen years ago)

The Black Parade isn't very good. But "Famous Last Words" is extremely good.

what you know about hat? I know all about hat. (edwardo), Monday, 16 February 2009 05:41 (seventeen years ago)

ooh that one was the very worst!

z8080 smith (some dude), Monday, 16 February 2009 05:42 (seventeen years ago)

So will this be followed by the "Helena" vs "Dance Dance" vs "The Only Difference?" I like all three of these better.
