cage & aviary put 'television train' out on that label dissident... would love someone to do a S/D on those dudes, they put out 40+ singles in about 12 months.

i've been liking most of what i've heard on this label, especially stuff from gatto fritto, naum gabo (a project from jg wilkes of optimo) and truffle club. the veros artis label comps are great, and owner andy blake even put together an excellent mix for dj history a few months back (stream here)

andy blake did a mix on beats in space a few weeks back too - go here and scroll down to the 20th january listing.
the one thing i have from this label is this one, it's a warehouse banger in the vein of 'videoclash'. jack jack jack!
i think the naum gabo stuff disappeared from my local record store before i had a chance to listen.

came here to post about ^that^ beats in space mix - it's terrifilicious! such a fun ride, too bad no tracklist was made available.
some info on good stuff would be appreciated. i only know naum gabo from their regular appearances on the pop ambient series and what i heard i like a lot - is there music on dissident similar?

I fucking love the two CD comps. The only vinyl I have is the Cage and Aviary coz my bro got it for me for my birthday.
There's an Andy Blake 'rock' mix here.

I was really into that Binary Chaffinch record a year or so back but have a feeling it won't have aged well... I sometimes get that vibe off Dissident releases - that they're better in theory than practise (i.e. better on a podcast than in a club)

mmm naum gabo never featured on pop ambient... prob got them mixed up. carry on.
― willem, Monday, 16 February 2009 09:18 (seventeen years ago)
Binary Chaffinch still rules.
― Bernard's Butler (Raw Patrick), Monday, 16 February 2009 09:30 (seventeen years ago)
i think there's only the one naum gabo tune on dissident, but it's a good one. i keep seeing the vinyl at amoeba in sf, control voltage and binary chaffinch i think? probably more were in at some point
... pssst

willem: mr wilkes has indeed released stuff on kompakt, but just as 'naum'.

horus & whore: thanks! (Issimo!)

S: all the Gatto Fritto 12s, the Cage & Aviary 12s, the Naum Gabo, the WICKED Tommy Walker 3 "Sure As" (secret dancefloor weapon if i ever heard one), Ali Renault's "Our World Is" and "Zombie Raffle" (though he is inconsistent imo), the Binary Chaffinch ones and Ape Into Jam's balearic killer "1972". i gravitate towards the more downtempo ones and was limited to what i could grab off of piccadilly or juno seeing as how limited they were, so I don't really have a D list except a lot of the other stuff i heard i was pretty 'meh' about.

explain the appeal of this label to me. right now it sort of sounds like a boring lo-nrg take on the bunker sound of legowelt, or a somewhat less melodic take on the supersoul sound. i was not impressed by the vero artis comps but i only gave them a cursory listen.
please tell me what tracks to seek out - i want to do a 180 on this label, too.

like if there's ONE track that sums up everything great about this label ... i remember being all bitchy about radioslave until someone (harvell?) pointed out how good his remix of "deer in the headlights" is, and i went and found it, and i was all [O_O] deer in the headlights myself.
― moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 15 March 2009 23:29 (sixteen years ago)
explanatory phrases also help ... i think harvell called the rekids sound "pure weeded-out menace" and then i got it.

ha damn vahid why you gotta put me on the spot like this?... tbh i'm not sure i can sell the label if you didn't like those comps, but i'll try to put up some of my favorite 12"s when i get around to it. mike's comments above are pretty otm, esp considering he's probably heard more of this than the rest of us (have yet to hear that tommy walker 3 and ape into jam stuff tho- sounds great).
i think on the leo thread we were describing those comps as sorta acid-y, with lots of stabby synths and the such, but it is often much slower than that description lets on. i'm not sure the label has some holy-grail type release, but i always listen to them when i'm in the mood for some solid downtempo house with clean, bubbly synth lines and the occassional nod to nu-balearic or aeroplane-style slo-mo disco stuff. it also seems like they sorta avoid the whole 'spacey' vibe found pretty heavily on those supersoul releases, and i could def see why one would prefer said spaciness.

burning to CD was a good idea, since i'm finding the subwoofer makes a big difference on many of these tracks

the bass on HotRS is brutal - almost sounds like an update of nitro deluxe or something
